Laude sing oh, Poo …
So, one day after Sassy in New England, Olde England gets a dusting of the white stuff.
Sliding and slithering over the crunchy snow and ice-covered country lanes to reach the main road was a bit of a hair raiser in the early hours of this morning. Boy, do I hate the snow!
This was my car park at Norwich Station at 5:30 this morning.
The train was only twenty minutes late (better than in good weather) getting in to London, but then of course the underground network had ground to a halt and nothing was running, so I did the big walky thing. This time I went via the south bank, which is not so pretty, but is a bit shorter (it's fecking cold).
Coming over Westminster Bridge, the only sign of winter was the frosty topping to Big Ben.
I know it's only the bell that's called Big Ben, but calling it the Palace of Westminster Clock Tower only draws blank stares, so "Big Ben" it is …

London very rarely gets more than a light dusting of snow, due to its cowardly, sheltered position (hiding behind East Anglia when the north wind blows, so Norfolk gets all the bloody stuff) and its "stupidly hot in the summer" microclimate, so it was worth a quick detour this morning into St. James's Park, to refresh my crabby old soul.

Ahh … Old soul no longer crabby … although I much prefer it when it's all green and sunny.

Compare this morning's photo of Buckingham Palace with yesterday lunchtime's. Brr …

And half way across the park I came across this foolishly optimistic camellia.

So wrap up warm, Ame and hubby, 'cos Santa Clara this ain't …

I kinda like the foolishly optomistic camelia.
Am envying your snow.
I'll bag it up and send it down to you, Kate.
Your car park looks inhuman, it's so cold. But for London, I know it's cold and miserably uncomfortable, but I still like the imagery, especially in contrast to yesterday's views. But then I am sitting toasty in my sunroom/on-the-way-to-the-porch area (I don't know what to call it), with a cup of coffee and the knowledge that I have the next two hours to write. Stay warm.
Sunroom-on-the-way-to-the-Porch sounds just fine to me, Robyn.
I'm nicely warmed up now, (temperature-wise, anyhow), and am about to head on over the road for a big fat toasted olive ciabatta, stuffed full of ricotta and sunblush tomatoes and basil.
Mmmm … lunch.
Wow. I'm afriad that I am still insanely jealous of your walk. I'll have to post pictures of the malls near where I work.
Icy car park, though. Ick. That early in the morning, it must be murder.
Beautiful flower.
The walk would be even better if I didn't have to do it so damned quickly, Sassy.
The icy car park wa okay; it was my icy driveway and country roads that were nasty this morning.
And yes, I am a beautiful flower.
i'm so sleepy i read 'this foolishly optimistic camilla, which got me wondering about all sorts of stuff. what was she doing in the park? what is she so optimistic about? why is dive mentioning a royal, even if just by birth?
then i realised it was time to head to bed. 'night.
Nighty night, Gaijin Girl.
As for Charles' fragrant companion; fortunately our parasitic "rulers" have decamped for the season, leaving the parks to us plebs.
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn...Morning Divey Boy...and Divey Boy Harem! ;)
Amazing shots...even more amazing you were out in it for that morning jaunt to work...bet you burned more calories than you've burned in a looooooong time! Ooooooo...STOP it Ame...you JUST woke UP, GEEEEEEEEZ!
Maybe I WILL leave my bikini at home this time...
As usual, back later (after the drudgery of the morning get-em-to-school routine) to play in the snow...and it IS beautiful...Mother Nature at her best...poor little camillia, it's toast!
=)
Morning, Ame (this is weird; I say g'night to GG and then Ame wakes up).
While I quite like the idea of a harem Ame, I'm pretty sure the only guys that hang around in them are eunuchs (OW!) …
The snow should clear by the weekend, but the long range forecast is for much colder weather in Feb (just for you).
Wow another great London post. Don't particularly want to be there today, in all that snow though. Tiny dusting in Gloucestershire, not much to speak of, how are we on the cowardly positioning within middle England, then Dive?
Ame, don't forget too to visit www.londondailyphoto.blogspot.com for more London info. Can't have too much! Though today there i fear you may just be confused in the comment box. Good luck with that then. Dive, i expect you may enjoy it.
I don't begrudge you westerners your position, Lynn; you get most of the rain, while we get most of the snow, so it's kinda even.
And thanks for the link, Lynn. I LOVE Mornington Crescent and would join in except somebody used Pudding Mill Lane, which is not permitted under those particular circumstances. My move would have been Shoreditch,
Dive, Shoreditch is fine! Under the East End Rule of 69 i think it was, you can play that at any time. Go for it, and before someone else does. They're pretty hot there today.
Even if you have to rush, the scenery is still much better than my daily grind.
just checking in with old divey - gee dive, after seeing your nice photos I felt like i took a trip and never had to leave the farm.
I'm a big fan of photos... thanks for sharing as always.
There's another snowy London pic at London Daily Photo today - not meaning to glean your readers away of course, Dive, from your blog where you have SQUILLIONS of gorgeous London pics!
Just wanted to say that I'm lovin' these walks - even though I'm not an urban type, and like the cold as much as you do, the pictures of your walk are reall evocative.
I'd call the camelia 'defiant' rather than foolishly optimistic.
Oh, and you can't make the Shoreditch move, because you'd be in Nid if you did that.
Dammit, Pea!
You are the Jedi Master of Mornington Crescent, so I defer to your judgement.
Rats!
And the nice thing about Westminster is that all the parks link up; St. James's Park joins on to Green Park, which jopins on to Hyde Park, so I can walk in greenery for hours in London, while here in the village I have to stick to the roads.
Exactly. In Morningtonspeak, that gives you the wonderful opportunity of employing Park Position, which i did yesterday. Sorry... should i stop banging on about Mornington? I just get so... enthusiastic about...games. Sigh.
