Reflections

Pink frock and fur stole reflected in the glory of an XK140.
Goodwood … what's not to love?

Sheesh! I Forgot to Post the Glam …

It's almost October; what the hell am I thinking?
I can't let a September go without a Goodwood Glam Parade.

This one's my absolute favourite from 2014.
Gorgeous, glamorous, mysterious …
the vintage camera was the clincher, though.
Perfection!

Dawn, Phil and Old Dive enjoying a civilised luncheon.
A hamper of bubbly and proper sarnies and cake all wrapped up with string.
Cheers!

And now, in no particular order, feast your eyes on some Goodwood Glam.
Check out that hat! Whooee.

Don't forget to top up your lippy and slap.

Land Girls ahoy! Say hello to 1942.

Demure and delightful,
but check out that matching toenail polish!
Hoo boy.

Yikes! It's Lydia, the Tattooed Lady.
(sing along … you know you want to).

Kawaii Kimono and chic beret.
Style and to spare.

Jeepers!
(sorry).

Redhead, blonde or brunette?
If you can't decide, take one of each.

The gels love a uniform, chaps.

Well, hello to you, too!

That's enough glam for today, people. There's plenty more for another day.

Performing Through The Decades

See? See?
It's NOT just the young, skinny glamour girls I chase after for photos at Goodwood.
Well … occasionally it's not.
Not when such a magnificent lady as this one pops into my viewfinder.
The "Performing Through The Decades" slogan on the back of her race programme
seems to match her own experience.

These two, too, are completely beautiful in their "land girl" getups.

Dressing up in period garb doesn't have to mean glam and glitter.
This pair are perfect.

The Goodwood Revival Meeting is for ALL ages.

Indeed for all sorts.

And for all shapes and sizes (not so sure about the glitter shoes, though).
Yes, polka-dots are slimming …

… but they're no substitute for ACTUAL slimming.

That's all for today. I'll glam it up a bit next time.
Toodle pip!

Privates on Parade

In the words of the incomparable Captain Mainwaring:
Right, you 'orrible lot. Get your kit on and get your arses on parade.
Normally at this time of year you get photos of Phil with the Glamcab Girls

This year, however, to show solidarity with the distaff side, we present Dawn with the Dad's Army Boys.

And you all know what that means … Prepare yourselves to be deluged with post after post of vintage racing cars, planes and pretty gels in spiffy frocks.

Follow the rules and nobody gets hurt.
Welcome to the 2014 Goodwood Revival Weekend!

Pedal To The Metal

Yes, it really was pedal to the metal at Goodwood this year with the inaugural Settrington Cup, a race featuring vintage Austin J40 pedal cars.
This is the winner of Sunday's finale, warming up in the paddock before the race. One up for women racing drivers!

There's always so much going on at the Revival Meeting that - unlike yesterday's post - you're often in the wrong place at the wrong time, and the Settrington Cup saw us walking up the Lavant Straight to get in position for the next race. We did, however, get to see the action through binoculars, which brought us a whole lot closer than my feeble zoom lens (click to blow this up and you can just see the cars heading for the chicane).

The kids (not only the drivers, but kid mechanics and pit crews, too) did a le Mans style start, sprinting across the track to leap into their cars and put pedal to the metal. The course saw the kids hurtle, nine abreast through the chicane (most other drivers only dare take this in single file) and then dash frantically up the home straight to the finish line, accompanied by Murray Walker's breathless Grand Prix commentary.

Here's a much better set of photos from the first heat on Saturday that really give an impression of the atmosphere. Goodwood is more fun than can be decently crammed into a weekend, with lashings of extra fun heaped on top.

… And A Thing of Booty

Damn! I'm appalled by my own crassness.
I really didn't think myself capable of such a crap title,
but there it is.
I hang my head in shame.

Hee hee hee …

Hostess Trolley

It's the weekend … and one's thoughts inevitably turn to a golf cart full of fake air hostesses … er …
or is that just me?

Cars and Girls, Part (Whatever, I Lost Count)

We've had so many gloriously sunny Goodwoods it was inevitable that we'd hit a rainy one eventually.

Even though most of the gels kept their beautiful dresses hidden under coats this year, some were brave enough to flaunt the frocks.
Here's a selection:

Now laydees … go look in your wardrobes. If what you see looks nothing like this then throw it all out and go kit yourself out in something gorgeous.

Both of these outfits are fantastic. What the hell is wrong with women today? Just LOOK at these two!
Go on, girls: glam up! You know it makes sense.

Va-Va-Voom!
It's not compulsory (unfortunately) to doll up as an air hostess and put in a tongue stud …
… unless you want to of course; I certainly won't complain.
And I'll refrain from commenting on the fortuitously positioned sign - I'm too much of a gentleman … ahem.

All cab drivers should look as good as Goodwood regulars the Glamcab girls.

Chim-chiminee, chim-chiminee, chim-chim-cheree, etc.
Please don't sue me if you find yourself singing that all day.
The rain put a few frowns on the faces of the Race Queens as they made their way out to the track.

But honestly, who can frown for long when you look that good?

Even the journalists got into the spirit of things; witness this Press-in-a-Dress.

Favourite hair-do of the weekend goes to this chirpy lassie. Wonderful!

As for the women who spurned the opportunity to look glamourous …
Let this be a lesson to you all!

Goodwood 2010 - All Cozzied Up

It was indeed spiffy weather for the world's biggest and best fancy dress party.

Lights … Camera … Action!

The lovely Glamcab ladies are back again and ready to transport you.

Or even to dance for you.

I say!
What stylish swimwear!

Ding dong!

The day was full to the brim with wonderful hats on beautiful weemen.

And serious hair-dos.

And fab frocks.

And even a parasol or two to keep out the sun.

And some East End folk down by the fairground.

Not forgetting some sage advice.

Even the Dad's Army crew turned up, with a splendid Captain Mainwaring looky-likey.

Breakfast of champions!
Free single malt all day every day for whoever might wish to indulge.

Some picnickers brought their own furniture.

While others simply basked in a glorious day of vintage motor racing with that peculiarly English twist that we love so much.

And so we bid a sleepy farewell to this year's Goodwood costume-fest.
See you next year!
