I put my stupid back out last Thursday and it doesn't seem to want to get better; I'm still hicking around with a stick today.
Normally, this happens around once or twice a year; I'll do something utterly trivial, like lean slightly forward and BANG … Flat on my back for several days and then another week of hicking around with a bloody stick.
I'm sick of it.
Moan, moan, moan, bloody grumble and moan.
Having said that, I have at least had lots of good swearing practice.
Every cloud has a silver lining? Bollocks.
Every cloud is just another fucking cloud.
Happy days …

Kids, dogs, the shins and insteps of passers-by; they're all fair game Vic, and when people turn around to complain and see the stick they tend to apologise to me instead.
Life does have its little compensations when you hate the world.
Get yourself to a Dr please if it does not get any better, and you better hide the stick from your bro!!!!
Get thee to a chiropractor pronto! I love mine, she's wonderful. Not only does she adjust me but she gives very nice back rubs too.
AND...she's very pretty! heh, heh, heh
May I suggest you enroll in a lunch time yoga class, dive? The stretching will be good for your back and it's a great place to meet women and that will be good for your back as well.
Oh sorry old chap. Not that your old in the least, just trying to speak you language ;). Backs are hideous when they tweak! Do you have a degenerative disc or a pinched nerve or something? I agree with the Dr./Chiropractor/yoga advice. I am prone toward a weak back myself because I have little short legs and the lengthy back of a dachshund hound, but I've never been laid flat with it. That always sounds so horrible.
I imagine your mother with a twinkle in her eye every time she talks to you! She's got casual funny down pat. TAKE CARE DIVE!
Mum; it's only been a week. It usually clears up after ten days or so.
Phil knows about Mister Stick.
Shazza: I have a very nice osteopath but the last time I spent a summer getting fixed it emptied out my savings account. I'll just wait it out for a few more days.
Rich: I have a fifteen minute lunch break. Any longer and I can't catch my train home.
And I do Pilates, which helps. The women are ugly and old like me, though.
Shan: thank you. I just have a crappy back. It should have got sent back for a refund by I never bothered.
The spine and nervous system? Intelligent Design?
God must have been in a real bad mood when he thought those up.
Hee hee.
Oh, the pain, the pain
Back pain has to be the worst
Much empathy, Dive
I threw my back out and walked with a limp for years. For me, chiropractic helped, along with gentle stretching. And cursing...loud, vigorous cursing.
;^D
Thank you Lulu. You are right, of course; I often feel that critics of cursing overlook the tremendous therapeutic value of a really good swear-fest.
Sorry to hear that Dive. I know your pain, it used to happen to me a lot, just the way you describe, sometimes merely brushing my teeth. Not for a long time, but I hardly dare utter that. It's pure misery. I used to find kneeling on the floor and arching my back - though painful - eventually helped. Far be it from me to suggest you do the same though. The good news, as you know, is that it does get better.
Arching like a cat i mean, not the other way.
Hee hee, Lynn. Yes, it does get better, thankfully. Though I've got a few more sweary days to go before I can walk around freely again.
Hey ho.
Oh goodness, so sorry to hear about your back! What utter misery! If all you're up to next week is to sit in a pub and moan about growing old, I'm fine with that. Well, I do want to see my friend Rothko. And there's a cool sounding exhibit about the cold war at the V&A. Get well soon and know that I'll be thinking of you as I relax in Tuscany for the next 4 days. See you next week mon ami!
Just what WERE you dong to put your back out....hmmmm.....the mind boggles!! "Something trivial" hey - well call it what you will!!!!
Would you like a massage???
I have sciatica, so I can feel your pain, Dive.
I find that throwing things helps...
And you need a partner like Bing who will make you little treats. Treats help too.
swearing is the answer, sugar! swinging a cane is also a pain reliever and drinking helps, too! xoxo (hope the next few days pass without any further problem.)
It sucks getting old Dive! I have more creaks and aches each day. I have no idea where they come from and then I constantly run into things. I have to squat every time I open my new mailbox at work and I'm afraid one of these days I won't be able to get up. I'll be stuck in the squat all day! O the horror!
I do yoga after work every Wednesday. We do wonderful stretches for every part of the back.
I love that fucking cloud bit. I plan to repeat it and pretend I came up with it myself.
Katie: It should be better by next week. Rothko and the V&A are definitely on the menu (as will be some inevitable moaning about growing old … hee hee).
Have a great time in Tuscany but be prepared for a weather shock when you hit London!
Jules: My mind boggles as to how I could possibly put my back out doing anything … ahem … untoward.
I would love a massage, but only when I'm better. The screaming would be upsetting otherwise (masseurs do tend to shriek a lot when battered with a walking stick).
Maria: Throwing things is something I am quite incapable of at the moment. However, as soon as I am feeling better I will give it a go.
And yes, may I borrow Bing, please?
Savannah: Swearing definitely helps. And alcohol is a muscle relaxant so that's all the excuse I need.
xoxox
Hee hee, Neetzy! The horror the the mailbox squat getting stuck will keep me giggling painfully all day.
T: You are more than welcome to it.
Maybe you should try standing up on the train rides from now on. Sitting for all that time can ruin your sciatic nerve. I'm a medical professional you know. tee hee
Oh, darn, hope it gets better...
"Having said that, I have at least had lots of good swearing practice." - Hehe, come to Australia, lots of practice happens here most days >_>
Boz.
Just catching up and very sorry and empathetic about the pain Dive. I'm in a bit of a screaming heap myself, resorting to lots of painkilling drugs. Heat packs help too dear, as does lying prone with your knees up on a pillow. Make sure that lumbar spine is flat!
Once you're past the screaming pain stage, get thee to a really good physiotherapist. Doctors can only prescribe, they don't have magic hands BUT it might be worth having an MRI to see exactly how degenerated or herniated your disc is. If you leave it, you risk permanent nerve damage like I have. The disc has 7 layers of sheath around it and each time you put your back "out", it generally means you have broken through another layer. The consistency of the disc material hardens as we age and pieces of disc can break off and damage the spinal cord if the herniated bulge is breeched. Take care dear friend. Hugs to you. xx
Rich: I HAVE to stand for a lot of those train rides! It's too overcrowded.
Boz: It's on the mend, thanks, but I've not stopped swearing.
Mme: My stupid aches are nothing compared to what you've had to endure.
That's a scary description of what happens to the spine. Brr! Luckily mine is much better today and I am able to get up and down stairs without the stick.
