Bleah …
It's Sunday morning. I should be enjoying myself, merrily dancing around the house with vacuum and duster, watching all the little cartoon woodland animals do my housework for me while singing in a vaguely irritating manner.
But I made the mistake of having a lie-in and now I am a lethargic lump of misery with a headache and and 'itchy-brain' and I possess all the patience of a two-year-old, binge-eating food additives.
Plus the weather's shite and it's that time of year when Old Dive gets a case of the lonelies.
So it looks like it's going to be a "vinyl" day … moping around the house with old jazz records and sad songs on the turntable.
Here's one to start us off …

Oh Hun you've got it bad.
Just to cheer you up i'll post nakedness with fruit today.
Gooooood morning, Divey! The other day I said to my family, "I hate when I get like this. I'm bored but I don't feel like doing anything about it. What's up with that?" To which my 11 year old said, "You're bored but you feel lazy." DAMN! She was right. So I figured since I was bored, restless, and letting myself get into a funk, I'd clean. I felt a little better after because I figured since I felt like shit anyway, I should at least get something done and STILL feel like shit because I was not in the mood to clean.
This led to a cleaning binge....I've been cleaning for three days now!
It's okay, honey! You'll snap out of it.
I vaccummed this morning at about 7:00.
Kate: naked fruits are possibly not what I need.
Katherine: Hee hee. I have said poo to the housework today (although I still need to iron my work clothes for the week) and I'm rather enjoying my vinyl frenzy. Boy, have I got some crappy and embarrassing albums in the vinyl racks! The sheer awfulness of some of them has helped cheer me up.
Sheesh!
OMG! What's up with you? I didn't think you'd ever go for this type of music! How about Take A Look Inside My Heart by David Benoit? :D
Sorry to say weather's gonna be even worse tomorrow.
Rickie Lee Jones is always a good place to start...
I'd try to cheer you up, but after seeing what Kate posted for you, I'm not sure there's much else to do.
If that doesn't work, I suggest you have a libation.
Every morose bastard loves Rickie Lee Jones, Joy.
David Benoit is way too mainstream for me, I'm afraid. If it's piano jazz I'm a Bill Evans man, or maybe Tord Gustavsen, but mostly I prefer my piano avant garde; Thomas Adès style.
The weather is always worse tomorrow; that's part of the shittiness of life.
T: I'm way ahead of you on the libation front!
Though I must say, Vic's neck looked kinda bite-able.
Yes, you already told me he's too mainstream. But I just thought you might enjoy his most popular work in place of the one today :D
I've played the same sad Sunday records for decades, Joy; they're comfort music: Rickie Lee Jones, Tom Waits, Miles Davis, Joni; I'm Mister Predictable.
Well luckily I couldn't get this to play properly or I'd be a weepy mess, which is not really in my character. After what I'm sure will be a fitful night's sleep, I'll be dragging my little suitcase (which now has 50 pounds of books!) to the airport so that I can be hurled through space all the way back to California. I'll watch this when I get home, where I can have a quiet breakdown in the safety of my own home.
My suggestion is that in the morning when you are rushing around getting ready for work, play some trashy disco.
I'll check in soon from CA!!
Sultry. I like it.
I was feeling all down in the dumps myself today when I noticed that Bing (who is away on a business trip this week) had taped SNL for me last night when I was too sleepy to stay up and watch it. It was hilarious! Tina Fey is so spot on perfect as Sarah Palin...you must see it.
Hope you are feeling better, Dive!
Rickie Lee on a crappy day sounds like a good excuse to bitch and stew and do nothing. You know Kind of Blue is my favorite Miles album. Miles and Joni are regulars in my studio when I feel moody. I need to get some Rickie. Glad to see you still play vinyl. The cracks and snaps add so much character. We've had a glorious cool but sunny autumn weekend so I have no excuse to sit and stew. I pulled weeds. Fucking crappy job. I live between woods and meadow and every little weed seed ends up in my garden. I think I'll let it go wild. I have poison ivy everywhere on my body. Do you have that shit in Britland?
Get into the garden with your raincoat and wellies! The fresh air will clear your head. Leave the housework and the vinyl - they'll be there when you've done something purposeful. Or stroll along the windy, empty beach taking photos of the gulls flying against the wind.
Actually, I played it and I liked it. Very nice music.
Hope your head clears up soon dear.
Ricki Lee Jones---fabulous.
I'm sorry to hear that you were in the dumps today--I know how the weather accompanied by everything else can make you feel that way. I hope that improves.
Somedays are meant for gin and tonics. Churchill would agree with me. They named the "blues music" for a reason. London survived the blitz and so shall you. Everything is relative. You are a good man Dive. I have faith in you.
Hi, Katie!
Bon voyage!
Have a safe flight today. I miss you already. Sorry for contributing to your fifty pounds of books … hee hee. Thank goodness you didn't get the Rothko catalogue; that weighs a ton by itself.
Lynn: Sultry?
Maria: I'd love to see that show but it doesn't get played here (I'm not on satellite or cable and get four channels, and two of those only intermittently).
Cali: Thank you. It's Monday. Everybody is happy on Mondays.
Neetzy: Kind of Blue got heavy rotation yesterday.
We don't have poison ivy but we have some pretty crappy plants. I used to love gardening but now I'm never home during daylight hours so I only keep the front in good order; the back has reverted to nature.
Mme: Good advice, but I'm afraid staying indoors and moping won out yesterday.
Cheers, Pilgrim. The weather's set crappier for today. Hee hee. I'll be fine in April.
Mark: I have faith in me to be a miserable old bastard. I have found my niche in life and am pretty darned good at it.
Yes, sultry; passionate, sensual.
Weird, Lynn. That's definitely not how I've ever seen that song.
Hey ho. Each to our own.
