Things have got so ridiculously busy that I have had no time to do my rounds of everybody's blogs and no time to write anything of my own.
Hopefully things will start to ease off by the end of the week but today all I have time for is another couple of parky shots and yet another crappy old post revisited.
Sorry, folks.
So …
Yesterday morning again and the disappointing lack of autumn in Green Park and St.James's Park.
This one's looking the other way from yesterday's shot, toward the Parasite House (so Lynn doesn't get a pout on).
And this is the lake in St.James's Park, looking decidedly non-autumnal. Sure, a couple of trees are making an effort but the rest just can't be bothered to shift their lazy arses and get changed into their autumn clothes.Hopefully in a couple of weeks we'll see something better.
In the meantime, here we go back into the archives for another bowl of re-fried crap.
This one's an episode from my student days when I learned of a surprising and unfortunate reaction that some people have to marijuana …
The post was called:
"Students, Drugs and Arse-Gravy."
Hokay.
It seems you lot are fixated on laxatives today, so I'll take this opportunity to add my own (true) tale of arse-gravy mayhem.
This one involves V……, now a prominent local Architect who will never forgive me if he finds me relating this sorry tale on the interweb, but hey ho.
Way back in the mists of time, in celebration of completing our final Architecture exam, V……, Bruce and myself found ourselves in the shabby gloryhole that was Norwich's Golden Star pub (their proud boast: "Not so much a pub, more of a bucket"). It has since been cleaned up and "theme-pubbed" but back then was the real 'spit and sawdust' experience … except without the sawdust.
After a couple of pints of the finest effluent from their own backyard brewery (from memory it was called Royal Flush and had a cartoon of the Queen on the loo on the beer pump - classy), V…… was up for further celebrations.
Nigel - one of the local dealers - was in the house and V…… decided it was about time he discovered just why the rest of us liked the occasional spliff.
So … a quick chat with our Nige (my band played his wedding and the bride's father got out of his tree on hash cake but that's another story) and, suitably grassed up we sashayed down to the river to relax.
I'll get to the point eventually but let me set the scene a little first.
The riverside walk at Norwich is extremely pretty and as this was midsummer was crowded with holidaymakers. Alongside the river is a mediæval defensive tower called Cow Tower, a bloody great circular ruin. We lounged beside this and skinned up.
A few puffs later and Bruce and me lay happily on the grass watching the little fluffy white clouds. We passed the rest of the joint to V…… to try.
I have since discovered that it has this effect on a small number of people. But the first we knew of it, however, was when V…… leapt up, yelling at us that he needed to crap, REALLY urgently.
There are no toilets anywhere near there so I told him to go in the tower.
Panicking, he yelled "But what can I use for toilet paper?"
"Just grab a handful of leaves." I said.
So …
Roused somewhat from our reverie, we watched in mild amusement as V……, in a stoned panic, tore along the footpath to the nearest bush and yanked the whole thing out of the ground, roots and all before dashing into the tower, screaming at us not to look.
Well, what would you do?
We gave him a few seconds and wandered in … to find poor V…… squatting in an alcove, moaning loadly in the throes of a most impressive display of explosive diarrhoea.
Of course, we did what any true friend would do and grabbed his shrub and high-tailed it out of there.
We certainly learned a few new words and descriptive phrases from V…… as we rolled about on the grass in hysterics. Only to have to get up and run as V…… emerged from the tower, brandishing his trousers and informing the world - including a crowd of passing holidaymakers - that he had been forced to wipe his arse on his underpants.
Naked from the waist down he realised his predicament and dashed back inside the tower, followed (absolutely true) by the holidaying family's dog which was in turn followed by their little girl, who was inevitably followed by the bellowing father. V…… caught up with us as we ran, which was a difficult thing to do when you're laughing so hard you can't breathe and one of you is trying to put on his trousers.
Ah, shadenfreude.
Bloody students, eh?
Let that be a lesson to you.

This, too, shall pass :D I hope next week will be better for you.
The park looks good!
i wonder if he's ever been back to the tower, sugar! xoxo
(this is the week from hell here, too!)
The park will look better in a couple of weeks, Joy.
Savannah: I remind him of it on a regular basis.
Good luck with your week!
xoxox
Oops, I've done it again.

Again, I hope you don't mind, buddy.
Ah, THAT story. I read it the first time and am permanently scarred from the experience, so I'll pass this time. No pun intended.
Haha! I hadn't read that one. I actually just heard a similar story from one of my close friends, and the crazy part was, there was no weed or "college" involved!
She has IBS, and oh so occasionally she'll experience the most embarrassing bowel evacuating stories stone sober people should ever have to endure.
This last time she was running across someone's yard, mid-morning on a Saturday, while "going" AND yanking down her britches in the process! I was, like Robyn, scarred from the images burned in my head.
Now, I'll get a quick look at your pictures again to clear my mental palette. Pleh. :p
I must have missed this story the first time around so I'm so glad you put it up for a good re read. Very Funny!
Busy can be good, dive. take a blog holiday.
Bloody students indeed. (She says, pretending she read the whole post.)
Sorry, Dive, I'm suddenly quite busy too. I'll have to come back and catch up here.
I look forward to your mushroom risotto recipe! You know, when you have time...
Lucio: I don't mind at all.
Robyn: Yup; it's pretty gross.
Shan: That's a lovely picture to have in my head now that it's dinnertime.
Rich: Busy is indeed better than bored, but too busy can suck.
T: That's one post I'm definitely making time for.
Beautiful shot at the top. Gosh another post where you start off saying you've nothing to post, then rattle off a great one! Do you talk in the same way?
I, too, well remember this story and also the rather unsettling feeling that came with it...
Now, I will go to bed and dream of steaming piles of things...
That is hilarious! I never knew about the arse-gravy effect! Are you sure he wasn't suffering as a result of a bad case of the "closet munchies"?
Another really funny story Dive. I love hearing about tales of guys named "Nigel" or "Robin" or "Trevor," you know those great Brit names. Im glad to hear similar hijinks like that also occured across the pond. Thanks for sharing.
Dive, I was having dinner with my girlfriends last night and one of them said that her daughter was living and teaching in London and going out with a boy who lived in Norwich, where she spends her weekends!! Small world, huh? Her name is Megan Clark BTW if you ever come across her. Her parents are both school teachers.
Oh, and your photos are lovely. The grass looks like a carpet. :)
Lynn: You'll have to find out for yourself how I talk. Hee hee.
Maria: Sorry, but schoolboy humour never changes.
Neetxy: It's a genuine reaction that quite a few people have. We managed to get V… to try another joint a few weeks later at college and he missed the next lecture because of his … er … problem.
Mark: I don't know any Trevors, but I work with a Nigel and Robyn is my oldest and best Blogpal, but then she's not a Brit bloke.
Mme: It is indeed a small world … at least until one tries to walk round it.
The only Megan I know is a Kiwi. How on earth did your friend's daughter meet someone from Norwich? If he can afford to stay in London during the week he must be rolling in cash.
I never knew that could occur. Maybe the quality control issue in Britland. Salmonella or e-coli in the harvesting process? You have to know where your weed is coming from. I haven't had the opportunity to do this for years. Alcohol is legal, cheaper and the side effects are at least more predictable.
Neetzy: Our quality control is top notch. Our local supplies come from Norfolk (the very best buds in the UK) and from Holland just across the North Sea (and you know how good that shit is).
It's quite a common reaction and weirdly almost instantaneous and hilariously spectacular. I've seen it in a couple of people but V… was the most extreme. Hee hee.
From the country where Autumn never comes - these look pretty bloody lovely!!!!
Your story was hilarious - I am lovely these dips into the past!!!!
