So anyhoo … Around ten yesterday morning we were all as busy as bees, drinking coffee and standing around chatting and comparing ankle injuries (another story) when there was this enormous crash from the back of the office and suddenly a pigeon was flying round the room.
Phil (no, not that one) caught it and set it free outside where it waddled around a bit, looking confused before flying off as if nothing had happened.
I was amazed at the almost perfectly circular hole the pigeon had made in the glass. It should at least be grateful that we work in an old 1960s office with thin single glazing; had it flown into a modern window it would be in somebody's pie by now.

Good job no one was hurt, well apart from the nird it probably got a head ache..
Hope your ankle is better..my back is not!
Whoops I meant bird!
The office nirds are always a real headache.
Your back will only get better when you lay off the gardening. Sheesh!
Your mum is right, 'nird' it is: with a bit of an overbite and his head always deep in his crackpot theories, Larry the Pigeon decided on Wednesday he was finally going to break through the force field at Blankety-blank Architectural practice, Wisteria lane. He'd seen human powered birds do it over the Channel and knew he could do it, too!
See:

Much to the surprise of his friends, who were watching from the surrounding eaves, Larry circled until, like the steely-eyed falcons he so admired, he dove towards the window. His beak was his weapon as he felt the force field shatter and fall all around, and he tumbled into the humans' sanctuary.
Dazed with success and dizzy with newly found power, Larry allowed one of the humans to capture him, then turn him loose outside where he returned to tell his friends about his adventure.
Uh, the end.
I doubt Larry broke the sound barrier, Speedway, but he definitely cut a pretty impressive circle in that glass.
Much as I like pigeon pie, I'd never eat a city pigeon. Eww! All the crap they eat … cigarette butts and those godawful supermarket sandwiches. Gack!
Nope, he didn't break the sound barrier, but in breaking through what he perceived as a force field, Larry did cause a shock wave (a rapid expansion/compression) as his beak hit the glass, circular like the vapor around the jet.
At least, that's Larry's pigeon-brained reasoning and my own cracked theory.
Just had a thought do you think it was something to do with your ex band? that was a pigeon wasn't it? oh memories...
Are you sure it was Larry, and not a stunt pigeon?
Perhaps Larry is a carrier pigeon who was trying to deliver an important message.
That little nird did a lot of damage. You better hope he was working alone.
On another note: something new for Brits and anglophiles alike:

Hey, my WV is "hytort." I don't know, I just like it.
Poor pidge. Nice comp on the photo.
Speedway, your theory's the best we've had yet so I'll go with it.
Mum, not all band memories were good. That lot were pretty sucky.
Vanda, you could be right. It was quite a stunt.
Ms.M. all he delivered was a lot of broken glass and some feathers in our coffees.
That's a great sculpture, Petrea.
Pidge will be my word of the day, Neetzy.
I just thought you might like the blog. She has shot some of the archaeological sites in York.
I've already bookmarked it, Petrea. Nice and quirky as well as historical. Thanks for the heads up.
OMG. Maybe it was an Al Kaide suicide pigeon. Call the FBI!
Hahahahaha! Excellent, Vanda.
WOW! So strange. Great catch! And fun seeing a bit of office interior.
Not so strange, apparently, Shan. The office folk tell me we have a couple of such pigeon strikes a year. We have either a dumb of a suicidally depressed pigeon population around here.
