… during the speeches for which much light-hearted mockery of the Forum's Architect was made in his presence. I think it's a lovely building to look at but I have to admit the acoustics inside are appalling.
The event goes on all week with lots of lectures and exhibition stuff. Pop along if you're in the city. There's free wine!

I like the effect you have on both of those.
After all the rubbish about the Forum when it was built they certainly hold a lot of events there. just a pity the library is so small in it...never mind you have one of those in your home! he he.
Don't get me started on the ruination of the old Norwich Library. Grr! Yes, my own library is probably as big as what's left of theirs. Shame on them.
The pictures are lovely, Dive. The first reminds me of a hand-colored lithograph from the 1800's. The glass curtain/wall revealing the corrugated ceiling looks like the delicate tracing of litho crayon, colored in with watercolor.
The second makes me think of one of Monet's paintings of the Rouen cathedral - yellow with blue sky - even though yours was taken at night.
The city at night is pretty sweet, Speedway. Perhaps now I'm working there again I can get out and about on winter evenings and take some photos.
I think your photos are splendid, too. Night photos have a special glow to them that bring the subjects out of the ordinary. The golden cathedral against the rich blue night sky is glorious!
It really is a lovely building, especially at night with all the lights turned on. And what a view!
Ms.M. Saint Peter Mancroft wouldn't dream of being a cathedral; it's just a church. The city is gradually replacing all its old high-energy sodium lighting with low energy, low light-pollution stuff so maybe in a year or two we'll be able to see it in its true colours at night.
Robyn, the view from inside the Forum is wonderful, with St. Pete's filling the big glass wall.
The forum reminds me of the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia. My daughter could look at it from her apartment window. It is a beautiful building but the acoustics are far inferior to the old Academy of Music, the place I first heard the Philadelphia Orchestra with Eugene Ormandy conducting.
It's an interesting juxtaposition, these two very different buildings. I'll bet the acoustics in the church are pretty good.
Neetzy, being a musician I'm always acutely aware of the acoustics of the buildings I design, but I think most architects have not the faintest idea what they are doing when it comes to sound.
Petrea, the acoustics in St.Pete's are awesome. They have a fantastic organist, too.
