And The Heatwave Keeps On Coming

So far we've had the hottest October days ever.
When Autumn finally arrives, all out of breath and full of excuses it will be nice to be able to walk ten paces without becoming drenched in sweat.
No sign of it yet, though.

Just enjoy it while it lasts!

Think of me I have just had to decorate 2 cakes, and cannot wait to get out in the garden!

I've been outside this morning and I'm glad to be back indoors where I can breathe. If you're going out in the garden, slap on a gallon of factor 50, a big hat and be sure to cover up. Oh, and not actually moving would be a good idea in this heat. Go lie down in the shade and take a pitcher of ice water with you.

I like the idea of October arriving out of breath and full of excuses.

And they'd better be good excuses, too. "The battery in my alarm went dead" just ain't gonna cut it.

Plane tree? I looked it up and found it's a variety of our American Sycamore, though I was tempted to imagine it dripping with fruit to supply British Air with jets for years to come.

The trees in your pics resemble some I've seen in pen & ink drawings. I want to say Van Gogh

The local power company contracted a tree service to cut back trees interfering with lines. Well... that has irritated a number of homeowners no end because the service butchered the trees in very unattractive fashions. No Brazilians, just huge lops taken away, gouges in sides to allow for wire. One man told me his tree died from their "ministrations." Probably from shame.

October arrived just on time. My turtle is now in a bit of a torpor, the cat is running amok, and I'm already anticipating the winter solstice to begin longer days towards spring

Hi, Speedway. Your American Sycamore is 'platanus occidentalis' (aka American plane). We had a to-and-fro about it a while back when I discovered plane trees are called California Oak in California. It must have been one dumb-assed naturalist with no knowledge of trees who named that one.
The Sycamore is actually a pseudoplatanus (a fake plane).
Arboreal pedantry is one of my most enthralling attributes.

Yes, van Gogh sketched avenues of planes … well spotted.

A turtle in a torpor and a cat running amok. Sounds like a blissful household to me. I'll look forward to spring once I've enjoyed a little autumn.

I'm confused. What's so unusual about warm weather in October? :P

I'm off to the flea market today.

Ha, ha, and thrice ha, you Southern California gal!
Have a great time at the market. I'll look for bizarro photos when you get back.

I feel your pain. It was very warm and humid here last week. Not typical late September. We have had the rainiest year on record in these parts. Perhaps we're switching climates? Last night I endured two band shows in drenching rain. Today a Halloween parade with November temperatures.

I also feel your pain. It's been unusually warm here for this time of year. Looks like you've captured 2 sun lovers in your photo. Me, I'm the one that heads for the shade.

Neetzy, I would really rather not trade weather with you. You guys have it way more extreme than I do.

Ms.M. Me too. I have no idea who those two are but they are insane.

It's supposed to be cold and rainy in southern California tomorrow.

Make the most of it, Petrea. You can go walking with a brolly and pretend you're in England.

Boz has his own brolly and we're going to use it today. He suffers from Seasonal Affective Disorder and is appalled by rain.

Oh, poor little guy! He has my sympathy.
