Yesterday, Genie posted a delightful shot of a window on Rue Montorgueil, the best street in Paris for food and coffee and a great place for generally hanging around and watching Parisians from Clothilde's café.
As Genie is off to Paris in a week or so and I've just had my free office trip cancelled (dammit), I have a bad case of Parisian ache, so here is a photo of my favourite building on Rue Montorgueil: Au Rocher de Cancale.
Yes, it's grotty and run-down but it is also beautiful and if ever I get around to buying a lottery ticket and winning the damned thing this is the house I want to buy, renovate and live in.
The Rock of Cancale … a pretty little commune on the Breton coast. To live above a Breton restaurant on my favourite street in Paris would be bliss, but unfortunately I have to head off to work now and face the other grumpy Paris-bereft people. And … er … go bowling as it's Friday.
Have a great time in Paris, Genie. I'm not jealous. Oh, no. Not one bit (exits stage left, gnashing teeth and rending garments).

Seven whole floors! How fun!
Not only do you have to miss Paris, but you have to go bowling, too. I'm so sorry. You'll get there someday, though.
Seven floors! Lots of stairs but just think how many more books I could squeeze in there.
And it's just across the road from Clothilde's café and a few paces from Stohrer's and the best cheese shop on the planet. I hope I remember to buy a lottery ticket.
Luckily I missed bowling today. It's half-term here so the place is packed with shrieking kids and inevitably it costs twice as much as usual to bowl, so we'll go next week instead.
OK, seven floors and you gotta make it pay. The first floor would be a coffee shop and used book store, 2nd and 3rd would be your suite, the remainder would be a home for pretty weemin. you could call it "Dive café et livres d'occasion et à domicile pour les jolies femmes." But you'd have to hire me to be the middle-aged woman who sits in the doorway, watching everything, the concierge.
Excellent building; it would make a great place to live. You could put in a guest room or 3 where Blogville friends could stay during a visit. Heck, you could even put in your own bowling alley!
Yes, get that lottery ticket. May the luck be with you.
Speedway, I'd need at least six floors for my books so the restaurant would have to pay.
I must confess I could do with a concierge.
Ms.M. My dream is to have a place in Paris where friends could come and stay. I bought a lottery ticket so we'll have to wait and see if my fourteen million to one chance pays off.
Repeat after me: "Ha!"
Or a librarian. Research, ya know.
