Fortnum and Mason on Piccadilly have splendid shop window displays. Unfortunately, they also have really shiny windows and the reflections make photographing their displays a nightmare.
This year, their Christmas display is based around traditional pantomime, and specifically - this being London - Dick Whittington.
At Bryan's suggestion, I popped back there after dark to photograph the things lit up. There are still some intrusive reflections (and lots of camera shake) but the results are better than in daylight.

Those are lovely! I have to say I enjoyed the first one best, though. The carriage looked ghostly, and you can't tell which part is real and which isn't. (Kind of like shitty people, except the pic is beautiful and they're just assholes.)
You need a circular polarizer lens for your camera.

Fortnum's windows are always worth a look, Katherine; even shitty people can go see them, which might make them less shitty; you never know.

Dick Whittington was a mediæval Lord Mayor of London, around whom a weird legend grew up regarding his cat and their exotic adventures together. It became a staple of the English pantomime season and kids are taught the stories alongside those of Robin Hood and King Arthur et al.
I love these (even with the unusual reflections)! What a treat to see these in storefront windows!
I looked up Dick Whittington, too, as I'd never heard of him, and I wondered why a cat kept appearing in the scenes. Charming story.
