Pigeon Party

The quiet beauty of St.James's Park in November.

Dive, that is so cool. The pigeons must be really used to people being around. Are they satisifed beggers, as "Will coo for food"?

I love the color. And ya see that tree dead center? That is a definite candidate for a close-up. One of these days, we will just have to go for a walk in St. James park.

The flying rats of St.James's Park are almost as bad as the squirrels, Speedway; they'll mug people en masse (http://smallglassplanet.blogspot.co.uk/2008/12/too-busy-to-blog.html).
In November, however, the lack of tourists means they get some quiet time.
If you fancy a stroll, come on over. It's cold and rainy and blowing a gale but the park still looks lovely.

Looks a lot like central Pa. in November. Just take out the pigeons and replace with starlings.

Pigeons are too gangsta for my neck of the woods.

Not so many of those pigeons in Norwich after our Falcons came to nest this year!

Lovely photo though.

Hi, Neetzy! Glad to see you managed to battle your way through my dumb word verification thing. I'd switch it off only every time I try I get deluged with spam, darn it.
Starlings are definitely prettier than pigeons; better singers, too, though our local ones are good mimics and we've had car alarms and barking dogs coming from the trees in my garden.

Those falcons are going to get pretty fat this year.

What are they eating? That's a little freaky.

Dive, your last comment brings to mind the mockingbird that lived in the tree in the parking lot outside my apartment in North Hollywood. One weekend I was out of town--apparently the right weekend to be gone, because when I returned that poor bird sang car alarm songs night after night.

Hee hee, Petrea. Only one type of spam is wonderful.

London's flying rats will eat anything and everything; these ones are probably polishing off the remains of a tourist party they mobbed earlier.

I'll never listen to the Mockingbird Song the same way again.

I read that there was a dead messenger pigeon found in a chimney that had a message still attached to its leg:

It's amazing how birds mimic sounds. Think of all the electronic beeps/noises that occur when the electricity goes out -- then think about if you owned a parrot....

Fascinating link, Ms. M!

Yes, Ms.M. The whole country is trying to decode the secret message at the moment. Fun!

My ex.in-laws owned a parrot. Sheesh! No wonder pirates were so cranky.

Isn't is fun, Petrea?
