Poor Yuri. Why do these statues never quite work? We got the Martin Luther King Memorial here, done by a Chinese sculptor, that is massive and a bit foreboding. And Yuri's nameplate is surmounted by a safety razor. These men both deserve something that soars.

It's not the greatest statue in the world, and it's not a good likeness of his handsome and usually smiling face, but it's kind of grown on me.
And of course, having a Soviet - and a personal - hero planted in the heart of London opposite Admiralty Arch (reflected in the windows here) and a stone's throw from Trafalgar Square always makes me smile.

Planet-surfing, Katherine, and very definitely on top of the world.
