Look Up. Pt.11

Back in jolly Westminster this morning, still with residual IT problems (I mean the servers, not the fact that IT trolls only speak Klingon), but at least I can do a little work.
And to keep myself relatively sane I had a nice stroll through Green Park and St.James's Park on my way in.
In the parks, the snowdrops are in full bloom and the great drifts of daffodils are already showing touches of yellow at the tips of their buds, which means I'm going to have to oil and sharpen my stupid lawnmower soon.
Bummer.
Spring's on its way at last, but every silver lining comes with its own cloud.

Anyhoo; I've posted way too many shots of the parks, so this morning I snapped the austere yet wonderful Art Deco headquarters of London Underground, 55, Broadway, above St.James's Park tube station.

This just has to be the creepiest and most uninviting thing to stick over your front door.
Grim, huh?
And those eyes! Brrr …
I'm going to have to get me one.

I kind of like the creepy fella myself.

It's very you! Do you have gnomes in your garden?

When we move to our new house, I wonder what kind of accent/accessory we can use on the door...

Kate: you hang around in cemeteries with a shovel, so I'm hardly surprised.

Joy: I have creepy stone gargoyles dotted around in the undergrowth to startle the unwary.
If you're looking for something cool for the new house, pop up to Alby Crafts and go see Peahen's sister Helly in her studio("Helen's Sculptures" in my sidebar).

He is horrid isn't he. Would be good to have him on a lever mechanism so you could pop him out when sales people call at the door.

I think that's the door to the London Underground Complaints Department, Lynn.

Brrrrrrrr, that's so creepy. Why in God's name would someone put that over a doorway?

And please don't say that spring is on it's way. We've got another two months of winter at least.

lol Dive!

Come on, though, you can design one of those thingies, operated from inside and it pops out of a hidden flap with a little message making these sales people - whom i loathe, knocking at my private door of my private house in my private time in my private hours off, often in the darkness of the street when i don't know who the hell they are - jump and sending them away without the need to speak or ignore the bell. I'd buy it Dive!

Heya, I know you've already been to Norwich Daily Photo daily today, but would you mind swinging by again please? I've got something for you there - which probably goes against your character, but who cares :D

Re the garden and my door - I may stick with something sweet like lavender pots and flowers on the door.

Robyn: the whole building is a nest of dæmonic sculptures. Inside it is rather beautiful with lots of Art Deco bronze and flashy stonework.
I love it.
As for winter; if you live on a continental landmass, well away from the coasts, what do you expect? Move over here to our little island in the Gulf Stream.

Lynn. My door has neither bell nor knocker.
I'd recommend following suit and adding a sign stating "I work shifts and need my sleep. Knock on my door and I'll beat the crap out of you".

Joy: Hee hee hee. That's something that I've been trying my utmost to avoid for weeks, but - like a contagious disease - it's gonna get me in the end.
Thank you for thinking of me, but that's one award that will sit in its box and not go up on the blogwall beside the Pariah Club!

That's the sort of door-sign that makes them stand around to read. One needs to be more concise.
Two words should be quite sufficient; if you get my drift.

I knew you'd say that! :D But it's alright, that's what I anticipated anyway. It' just to let you know that your blog is one of the very few that truly makes me laugh each day - most needed in this very gloomy and disheartening time of the year - tax return submission!

Monsieur B; one has to strike a balance between persuading them to go away and goading them into egging your house. As I learned the hard way, dried-on egg is a bastard to get out of brickwork.

Joy: You're more than welcome to giggle at grumpy Old Dive.
Keep on making my day.

Oooo, its scary. But I guess it will make a good door guard for you.

It's a very weird building, Alice.

Hey, when you're in Norwich this Thursday, swing by BBC Voices and say hi, ok? That's where I'll be for most of the day - it's the one next to Pizza Express and LearnDirect.

The two words could be effective, but unless on a pop-out basis, they'd offend the good people!

I don't have a bell or a knocker, Dive. They use their knuckles for heaven's sake.

I have a big meeting at the school on Thursday, Joy, but I shall endeavour to get that out of the way in time to pop in to the city and see you.

Lynn: then you should reciprocate, for heaven's sake.
Hee hee.

Pretty soon I'll be adding constant mowing and weeding and trimming and pruning and a plethora of gardening curses to my weekend workload, Rich.
Hey ho.

I swear to God that this fella has shown up in my nightmares more than once...

Considering that I have never been to your neck of the woods, that slightly scares the boy howdy right out of me.

He must have relatives in the Colonies, Maria.
Creepy.
