I Don't Even Know What Day It Is

That's twice in the past seven years that I've gone back to work a day early after Christmas.
What a fucking dork.
At least this morning, the trains were so crap that at five AM the website listed fifty-five cancellations so I emailed the office to say I'd be working from home.
I was quite happily beavering away when an email came back from the boss at 8:30 saying "Hahahahaha! Go back to bed, you klutz! We don't start work until tomorrow."

The last time this happened was before the evil "One" franchise took over our rail line and so the trains worked (sort of). I got into the office to find the security guard (Hi, Fernando) looking at me weirdly and asking what I was doing there.
Having kicked myself around reception I went up to the office, got a coffee and breakfast and read the paper, then went sightseeing and shopping in the snow (yes, we had snow back then).
I wasn't going to waste a seven hour round trip to London by just going straight back home.

So that's Dive's start to 2008.
I'm so dumb that I don't even know what day it is.

Well, start as you mean to go on, they say.
This is going to be one dumb fuck of a year.

Howdy Dive, ole son.
There ain't nothing wrong with stuffing up stuff so early in the Noo Yeeeer, cobber.
Crikey, mate , You must be the only chap that I know who has a mate called Fernando.
How lucky can YOU be. One would have to listen to Abba songs to appreciate the joy that you British folks simply take for granted.
Think on it, there probably isn't even ONE Fernando in the whole of Australia; yet you know one.
Crumbs and golly-gosh; we are just blessed and validated to be in such exalted circumstances.

By the way, it didn't make even 39°C here today, but Saturday will be a sweet 42° and we will be thinking of you.
I have been washing bird shit off the windscreen while you have been melting ice.
Why don't we do a house swap ?

I'm sure your life coach would tell you to see the day as an unexpected bonus holiday. Me, I'd probably be the same as you and be mad at myself for dragging my butt out of bed a day early.

Thank you so much for having us round chez Dive. It was so good to see you (and Jerry!) and sorry if I didn't have a huge amount to say for myself. I'm just pleased the stupidity is over too!

Must say, Dive, that's not a great start. Thank God you didn't get far.
I've started today, no in fact i started work at 3 am on New Year's Day. Some urgent online stuff. Went back to bed though. Today it's off and on, workwise but i'm still in Christmassy mode and surrounded by pure evil. Chocs.

I used to be a shampooist with someone called Fernando when i was a teen. Randy so-and-so he was, used to synchronise his coffee time with mine in the tiniest kitchen imaginable. You get the picture.

Crikey; heck; gosh.
Heavens to Betsy.
What's the world coming to ?

G'day, Monsieur!
It's a bracing 20ºF by my thermometer. Bugger winter!

And Fernando is a huge, black Brazilian guy. I wouldn't advise singing Abba at him.

Hi, Pea.
It was wonderful to see you and Helly. As I've got this bonus day off I may well broach your wine this evening … and leave myself with a headache for the morning.

These Fernandos are all alike, Lynn.
And chocolate is only evil if you don't eat it.

Monsieur B: The world is going to Hell in a handcart.
Fun, isn't it?

God, you and I must be twins. Today, I got out of bed, put on my business suit and pantyhose (which I fucking HATE) and heels and headed to my client's office for an 8 o'clock appt. The parking lot was nearly empty and you'd think that would have given me a clue, yes?

No. I went in and was told by the janitor that the office wouldn't re-open until Thursday. I was mad as a wet hen, thought the guy had sent me the wrong date. Went home (a nearly hour long drive) and discovered that he was right and I was wrong.

And my legs were all itchy from the frackin panty hose.

Buy you a drink?

Oh Dive - what a darling dill you are, but hey I can't laugh I turned up for work a week early one year which was great because I had another week, not another day to enjoy!!

Oh, I hate that when it happens. But I can't remember that happening to me... Anyway, at least you haven't left Brundall yet when you found out, so that's a blessing, right?

Sorry I wasn't able to visit your blog sooner. I was in transit the whole of yesterday.

I am now back in Norwich - :( After enjoying a high of 30C and a low of 25C, can you blame me if I don't particularly enjoy -1C?
Oh well. There's spring to look forward to AND in 4 months' time, I shall be back in Manila again! Yay!

Do swing by my other sites to leave your footprints behind. Read: lovely comments. :)

Happy New Year to you and everyone you hold dear!

We're seeing banks this Saturday (preparing for the purchase of our very own house, yey!) and may not get to the ice rink til after lunch - then I have to hop over to Future Radio. Or I may do radio first before the rink - in case I break something!

Don't kill me if we don't see you for coffee, ok? If you had a mobile phone, I'd be able to keep in touch a lot easier :p

Enjoy your first day back at work.

Belated Happy Birthday, Savannah.
Enjoy 2008; it's all yours.

Lynn: the trains are still misbehaving so I'm working from home again. Hopefully I'll get back to work sometime before next Christmas.

Maria: I'm so glad it's not just me. And yeah, my pantyhose itched like crazy, too. And those damned heels play havoc with my calves.

Hey there, Pilgrim. Yeah, I suppose dumb's not so bad. I'm kinda used to it.

Sassy: Happy New Year … Now what year is it? I can't remember.

Jules: A whole week! You put me to shame.

Joy: Welcome back to the arctic.
I really don't mind not skating on Saturday; I'd probably put my back out. And don't worry about coffee; just keep hassling Future Radio to put out your show on their podcasts.
Roll on spring, and good luck with your house-hunting.

Actually yes the trains are crazy. Thought of you. I was promised snow and didn't get it. Honestly you can't get the staff these days.

We've had a few flakes here, Lynn, but not enough for a decent snowball fight.
