So the colours are nice, but it's cold, damp and miserable unless (like me) you are working from home and wrapped up in front of the fire with a big fat mug of coffee.
It's time for a blog vote, people.
Our wonderful Jules has asked me to stop posting photos of autumn leaves because the trees where she lives don't do that and she's jealous and feeling left out.
I - on the other hand - would happily throw all this cold and foggy autumn weather and any amount of pretty leaves straight in the trash in exchange for the view from Jules' house.
So …
One of us is sane; one of us is quite alarmingly dotty.
You decide.
This is the view out of my studio window this morning.
The photo below is of Jules' house (sorry Jules, I stole it from your blog).Okay, so sometimes the skies are blue here and sometimes Jules' volcano erupts, but tell me: who's the crazy one?

It may sound crazy, but while I love the tropics on occasion, I prefer to live where the seasons change--new growth cycles through autumn to winter, and it all starts over again. I'll take your seasonal weather any time.
Dammit!
Jules is one-nil up already!
Let's re-iterate this:
It is bloody cold and damp and grey and miserable here. And winter is on its way.
The seas here are sludge grey.
The skies are the colour of a nasty bruise.
The wind blows straight down from the north pole and doesn't strike land until it hits the Norfolk coast, just down the road.
I'm old and depressed and I've never been to the tropics.
I think I'm going to go to bed until spring.
I would also go nuts living in the tropics---but they are great to visit.
I don't like cold rain though. I would much rather have the white stuff (until March, when snow becomes Death Flakes).
Dive, sorry to let you down. I am with Sassy and Robyn. Seasons must change, leaves must fall, snow must pile and buds must burst.. it is the only way to keep your body clock ticking properly!
PS. I took my trip to work pics this morning. I hope they come out at 50 MPH!
You weemen are insane!
That's three-nil to Jules so far!
Hey, perhaps you could all chip in to a fund to send Old Dive to a tropical island so I can see for myself just how crappy they are and why I should be grateful it's grey and cold and miserable outside.
I can't wait to see your photos, Prudence. Autumn must have hit NH with a blaze of colour.
It is still ablaze in some spots. I am afraid I dallied too long and now it is mostly brown. What a lazy sot I am!
P.s. I did live in Lahina in Maui for 8 months when I was 22. I have to say, it is paradise but I missed the mainland. They call it Rock Fever there. All those from the mainland who get homesick.
I live on a small, cold rocky island surrounded by a muddy-grey freezing sea, Prudence. I would love to swap it for a small, warm, palm-fringed island in a turquoise sea.
Sigh …
turquoise sea for sure and the best BUD you ever had... or so I was told (tee hee)
Dive, old son. It's so simple.
You, Poms need a proper volcano. A bit of Italian warmth, some lava running down the slopes. Tourist shops selling postcards and little models of the volcano. Just like the Eiffel Tower models. You could trade in that large palace down the end of the mall and a couple of cathedrals. Crikey, what could be more simple. That would definitely turn the leaves a different colour, and a few Poms to boot. You'd probably find a lot more tourists from New Guinea setting up amongst the palm trees and bia stalls, mate. No worries !
Prudence: It's the turquiose sea I'm lacking. The bud is no problem – I am only a few miles from Holland!
Monsieur B: What a splendid idea: replace the Parasite House with a nice, touristy volcano.
The weather would still be crap, though.
Ok, you know I love my river, hot sunny days with the sun burning blisters onto my already freckled shoulders. Theres a lot to be said for the splendours of the tropics or just the merely sunny.
However what you described as your daily weather existence at the moment, grey skies, rain, cold, etc make for one ideal situation, two people under a doona on long lazy days off. You just can't be doing that in the tropics, for one thing you'd dehydrate.
Its bloody cold and damp and miserable here to
BUT.....................
look on the bright side and heres my bright side, cold damp and miserable can soon become warm wet and orgasmatronic. Just get your girl a train pass and play sickie from work.
me personally I'm about to take advantage of said nasty weather, i have a vistor under my doona tonight.
With much love and pics to come if your a good boy,
From Kate and Vic the Groover.
xox
Your view feels more like home to me dive. I do like the tropics but with new growth and change there is new hope and to watch mother nature go through her cycle is awsome
I've visited the tropics east and west and I love it.
BUT It's got to be worth putting up with autumn and winter for the expectations of a new spring.
Also you know that hateful commercial bah humbug Christmas and the valentine day rip-off are over for another year and the summer is on it's way.
WHAT??? You people live THERE?????? With THOSE views???
Sniff.
I'm cringing in jealousy as I take in the view behind me, via my messy family room: shed, deck stairs, fence. Bikes. Old trees. It's rainy and cold here, too. But the tea is good, and the cats are here, purring.
Please keep posting pics. Get some of fall leaves behind the water for absolute perfection. Send them my way. I will print them out and post them on my windows.
Dive, I have done my best to sway your thoughts. Go check it out!
why argue..we should just travel around like modern day hobos! ;-)
ps. i'm actually for seasons, you think you'd like year round tropics, but it gets old quickly!
(I HAVE LOST THE ROBOCOP BOOT!!!!)
(and i've posted a pic, too!)
(serious happy dancing now)
Depends on my mood. When I am sick, like now....I would go for the tropics hands down.
But, when I am better, I will love those cool winds and fall colors.
And if we move to California...shit. Gone, baby, gone.
Have I won - have I????
Hey Dive! Forgot to say - I'm launching my radio show on Future Radio today - 27 October at 3pm British Summer Time. If you're in Norwich all you need to do is tune in to 96.9FM.
If you won't be in Norwich (say you'll be in London, Germany or the US) you can stream it by going to www.futureradio.co.uk and click on LISTEN ONLINE and voila! The show will be partly in English, partly in Filipino. There'll be music and a bit of a discussion. :D You can even send me an instant message by using the INSTANT MESSENGER on the home page! And I'll read your message on air.

Your Love Coach
Yes, Jules.
You won by a landslide.
The good townsfolk of Blogville have taken leave of their senses.
I can only conclude that each and every one of them must have been bitten by something nasty when in the tropics and they now have a collective subconscious aversion to beauty.
I still want to swap.
Kate and Vic: Have a great time this weekend and tell us all about it.
Rich: Mother Nature can go through her cycle somewhere else. I want some warm sunshine and turquoise seas, and bollocks to snow and fog and bone-chilling damp.
Phil: I love spring, but the rest of the year sucks huge, fat hairy arse.
Katherine: I'll do my best, but the colours don't really happen here until next month.
Prudence: Those photos made me put a bag over my head and cry. I hate this stupid, rainy little rock I'm stuck on.
Savannah: Great news! Dance, baby, dance!
Maria: Go with Bing to California. Then I can come and visit.
Joy: Woohoo! If it goes out as far as Brundall I will be listening in every time I work from home.
I can't wait!
And good luck with it!
Oooh gosh all i can think is i want to be there!!
Where? In the beautiful blue of course..........sigh.........
At Last! A vote for sanity!
Thank you, Lynn.
Now I am truly suicidal - not only don't I have any autumn leaves but no one wants to live here - i think I will go and drown myself in the beautiful aqua warm waters of Blanche Bay which lap the white sands in my backyard!!!!
Jeeez what does a girl on a tropic island have to do!!!!!
Lynn and I both want to live there, Jules.
The rest of them are clearly insane.
Lyn and Dive - the gin and tonics are cooling as we speak!!!!
