Hey ho. Back in London after the office refurbishment and chaos rules.
We've had to fit lots more people into our lovely relaxed space, so my old car park sized space full of G5s is now gone and I am trapped in a tiny group of four crappy little workstations.
Not only am I now the proud owner of one-third of my previous space, but I am also overlooked, so blogging will be severely restricted (arse!).
Among the inevitable problems such as none of the computers working until almost lunchtime, my personal filing "thing" had gone missing in the move. After a prolonged search turn up zilch, myself and the maintenance man headed out to the car park where there are seven large dumpsters.
Yaay for dumpster diving!
I've not had as much stinky fun in ages.
At long last an advantage to being anosmic.
So we stomped around in the dumpsters, gleefully hurling crap all over the car park and it was nowhere to be found.
I didn't care though. This was better than work!
Somewhat predictably, the very last dumpster had my filing "thing" right at the bottom, in amongst all the orange peel and rotting detritus.
So … A shower and a change of clothes later (I always keep a change of clothes at the office because commuting is such a cack-fest that I am in need of a second shower of the day as soon as I get to work).
A quick trip to the dry cleaners is in order at lunchtime.
But at least I have all my personal stuff back on my desk, probably reeking slightly but nobody's complained yet.
… yet …

Ha, group work. They keep trying to sell me on that concept at school and I keep telling them its crap and makes no one productive.
Sleep with the boss hun, get a corner office.
My boss is a rotund, balding guy in his sixties and the capo di tutti capi looks like Cherie Blair, so a corner office is a non-starter, Kate.
They know I'm much more productive working from home which is where I am supposed to be for three days a week. We have been so short-staffed, however, that I'm lucky to get one day a week at the moment.
Hey and ho.
Dive - this is a funny post. Dumpster diving will bring you many unexpected gifts hehe.
Your new work station doens't look so bad, at least you have natural sun light from the windows. I have no window in my little crap hole of the hospital.
I suppose it's no worse than anybody else's in the office, Rich, but my old space was three times as large.
I liked being a dictator; this democracy business sucks.
And dumpster diving was so much fun! I felt like a little kid again. We threw trash ALL OVER! Woohoo! I think a communal dumpster dive would be a great morale booster in the office.
as much as i miss working with people...i don't miss office life. i am so feeling your pain, sugar!
I feel positively decadent to have an office of my own with a door and everything. I spent about 6 months in cube world and it nearly broke me. Gah!
Poo on cubicles. I have worked in them before, and the experienced nearly sucked out my soul, right through the high-powered air-conditioning vent just above it that kept the space a cozy 65 degrees.
Make it homey, Dive. Let Stouffer claim it.
Stouffer would set fire to it, Robyn.
I'll just make sure I work from home a lot more.
Can we call you Divebert now?
I'm with Rich, I have no natural light in my office, or the paint shop, so be thankful for small luxuries.
I do have a "light box" for checking colours but that doesn't count as I can only get my head in it.
My boss is a rotund, balding guy in his sixties
stop making excuses and just do him.
Phil: No, you can't.
Old K: He's retiring next spring and being replaced by an attractive woman. I'll wait …
Oh, that's not a lot of room, is it?
Nice and clean though. I'm sure the reason that I don't get ill is because my keyboard and phone are so filthy (from previous occupants) that I am somehow hardened against all viruses.
I loathe workstations. My first experience of them was at BAE Aircraft in Weybridge - engineers or something or other (i was a temp) years and years ago. I was horrified that i wouldn't be in my own office or at the most sharing with one other. People were advised to choose a plant to make the area homely. God. I lasted a week.
Spinny: no, it's not. That's one of the reasons I am working from home today, and will do so as much as possible from now on.
Lynn: I should be okay; I chose my cellmates: JJ, Aga and Heidi, the biggest bitches and stirrers in the company, together with Dive the token Marxist.
We've been in there less than a day and already we're known as "The Peoples' Republic".
Ew. I still can't get the image of dumpster diving out of my head. (I've got a bit of OCD) But I swear you always crack me up! I suppose that was more fun than being at the office.
I hate work stations. At the moment, I enjoy my own office (though God only knows for how long). I won't be able to work if someone else shares my space coz I won't be able to hear my own thoughts. You could try cheering your work station up a bit? :D

What a soulless little corner. I've never worked in a cubicle - come to think of it I've never had an office space that hasn't doubled as a studio.
You could become prone to nosebleeds and drip blood all over the desk - maybe that'll get you out of there.
