Well the other day, Joy invited me along to a business start-up centre in Norwich where her friends Jong Carmona (Filipino cook) and Isko Papica (Japanese Teppanyaki chef) were launching their new catering venture combining the best of Filipino and Japanese cuisine.
Woo and very definitely Hoo!
I'd not tried Filipino food before but what Jong and Isko served up got my tastebuds so excited I've been frantically downloading recipes and planning a raid on the Asian food market.
Holy frijole! What a glorious combination of orgasmic taste and texture!
Here are some of the dishes that were new to me:
Beef Kaldereta
Pork Sisig
Pansit
Sweet cassava cake
Tocino
Embutido
Lumpia
and that's not counting all the yummy sushi and Japanese goodies I eagerly wolfed down, jostling at table with a cross section of Norwich's great and good.
The lovely folk from BBC Voices were filming us happily demolishing plate after plate of exquisite yumminess. Here's their cameraman making a movie of some food in the background behind Isko, Jong and Joy as we helped prepare last minute things.

And here's just a tiny sample of the mountain of yumminess we gratefully devoured.I wish Jong and Isko every success with their new venture and I must also add a huge thank you to our lovely Joy for educating me in the delights of Filipino cuisine.

I love both Japanese and Philipino cuisine and the fusion of both must be a fantastic combination...

It looks good enough to eat. I've never eaten filipino food. I only just realised that. We have quite a few filipinos in Australia but I don't think there is a restaurant in Adelaide that serves their food.
Anyway, it is beautifully presented so good luck with the venture.
I might give David a miss tonight Dive because I'm, er, watching TV.

I'm a non-breeder, so Fathers' Day for me just means missing dad.
Though I did get a nice cuddle off next door's cats this morning.
I'm about to make lunch, Lynn. Steamed sushi rice and veggies with miso soup and green tea if you fancy it.
Mme: There is only one Filipino restaurant in London (and Joy says that's totally crap an not authentic) so I consider myself very lucky indeed.
The food is fantastic and the guys deserve every success.

Mmmmm Miso soup! When i was teaching Japanese teenagers, the girls sometimes would persuade me to stay in the classroom with them at lunch instead of going to the boring old staff room! Miso soup was always part of their lunch and they would always serve some up for me too. Ah, bless them, i miss them.

Miso is such a yummy comfort food, Lynn. I get mine from The Japan Store on Piccadilly as the stuff you get in supermarkets is crap (and don't even THINK about buying the powdered stuff … ew!).
I am so jealous of you having had Japanese teenage girls waiting on you. I always wake up from that dream just as it gets interesting, dammit!

Ah, the hair … Hee hee. He has been through so many different looks but I think that one was not the wisest for a man of his age.
I think what I like best about both Japanese and Filipino food is that is both delicious and visually beautiful. Think about it. Here in the states, a meal of steak, mashers and gravy and corn on the cob is simply no match for the beauty of those cultures.
An American meal would keep a Japanese family fed for a month. Hee hee.
