Dance, You Fuckers! It's Saturday

Just a quickie as I'm about to drive into the city for breakfast and shopping (it's not just a girly thang; some guys are born to shop and I'm one of 'em).

I went to see Tony's joyously disgraceful excuse for a band play last night (you remember? The worst and most shambolic band in the world?) and was totally disappointed to find them sounding tight, together and professional.
"What the hell's wrong with you guys" I protested.
Turns out that they have relatives over from Australia and they've been practicing hard for a month to "get good" for them.
I'm not quite sure how long I could handle them being listenable but they assure me that next month they will return to the stumbling, out-of tune, shambolic cacophony that I love.

And talk of cacophony brings me to one of my favourite bands and a song that is definitely "shaping my summer": the monstrously splendid My Bloody Valentine playing "Only Shallow".
Rumour has it that they're having a reunion this year. I can't wait!
Anybody who loves "Lost In Translation" will recognise this sound as their frontman Kevin Shields provided the soundtrack and sprinkled some MBV all over it.

Delicious, trance-like, dreamy Heaven.
Dance away your heartache …

Hmmm. I can't dance. I'm too tired from raking up oak leaves. Saturdays in the garden. I think next time I'll come shopping with you.

I'm in no fit state to dance yet i'm afraid, Dive, much less if you call me a Fucker. I'm still reeling from that.

"Mildly jarring". What a wonderful description of their music, Savannah.
I love the noise they make.

Mme: You are excused dancing through exhaustion and Lynn, you are still recuperating, so you can sit this one out, too.
"Dance, You Fuckers!" was very nearly the name chosen for one of my sanity bands. It was pipped at the post by The Cheese Mechanics.
It was one of Michael's favourite phrases for bellowing at audiences (off mic, of course, where only we could hear him).

These summer music posts are introducing me to so many things I have missed. I should get out more, I suppose.

You should turn this up REALLY LOUD and dance around the house like a mad thing, Robyn.
It will make you feel good and scare the pants off your daughters.

You're driving in to the city dive? I didn't know you knew how to drive, with all the train travel you do. Have fun shopping!

Oh I loved that movie. Especially Bill Murray. Don't really love this song though. Maybe it's too early to appreciate.
I know I'm still here. You really cranked up the language thinking I'd be gone didn't you? Just kidding. You never hold back for your pansy readers. ;P

Hmm, I can't really watch the video without feeling mildly dizzy, so I'm just listening to the music. I actually like the woman's voice, and if the drums were softer, it would be good music to listen to while doing other, um, physical activities. Dancing around the room though? I'm not quite getting that vibe. See back to your disco post. Sorry but that's what it's gonna take for me to dance around the room like a fool! Hope you had fun in the city!

Oh wow, I've got so much to catch up on, Gear Alert!!!!
Notwork Rail? They're that bad that someone jumped in front of my train yesterday (Friday 13th - believe the myth...).
It drives you to despair and as for you poor passengers...

Rich: I'm a car slut when I get the chance.

Shan: What are you still doing here? Your mom is waiting! Get going and have a great week.
While you're gone I'll be REALLY cranking the language with a song called "Prayer To God" that would make the Moral Majority's heads explode. Hee hee.

Katie; I suppose it is just my age. Crank this music REALLY LOUD and I can't help but dance around the room like your dad (only worse).

Istvanski: Jumpers suck so bad! If they want to die why not come and ask me? I'd be happy to kill them. Just DON'T HOLD UP MY TRAIN!

Dive i'm totally with you about dancing around the room. In the kitchen whilst cooking (not with hot things though - don't do that at home) and in the sitting room oh yes. Totally. When i'm better, that will be a session i shall look forward to.

You can't really dance to this one, can you? You sort of have to shimmer around with your arms out...

Lost in Translation is one of my favorite films.

Lynn: I dance around the kitchen all the time. It's when I'm NOT dancing that I spill boiling water over my foot like last week!

Maria: I can dance to anything, but you REALLY don't want to see me doing it! Imagine an orang-utan on a hot tin roof, fighting off a swarm of bees and you're somewhere close.

I like the idea of dancing around like a wild thing, although like your dancing, that's not something that should be done in front of others.

Although it would come in handy for frightening the daughters—that's always my goal, that an embarrassing them in public.

You'll have to attend all of their college dances, Robyn.
Mothers never like it when their babies fly the nest, so you can get revenge on them for growing up by dancing wildly in front of their classmates. Hee hee.

So you dance in the kitchen...
Do you sing in the shower? :)
What did you buy today?

Hi, Rose.
Gosh, it's lovely to see Canterbury again. I've not been there since my student days (which was so long ago I bumped into Chaucer's pilgrims).

Yes, I sing in the shower (appallingly); usually opera arias.

I bought a new pair of Converse Allstars, a couple of Japanese textbooks and a stack of recordable CDs.
