The Devastating Man that is my baby brother Phil - aka Full, The Monkey God.He has a birthday today!
Yaaaay!
And probably Woohoo, too!
To celebrate this momentous occasion, I will risk his eternal wrath and present you with a pictorial snapshot of the evolution of The Monkey God, from small animal sacrifice to full blown simian deity.
Big Pants! One day I woke up to find this strange, frog-like balloon alien in the pram.
In olden days, nappies were lead-lined and got changed once a month.
There's about a fortnight's worth in there.
Don't fuck with me!
Not long after the end of rationing, in post-war austerity Britain, iced lollies were made from offal, putty and grit.Phil's admirable food-snobbery started here.
Those gloves again.Back then, masturbation deterrence started early.
That was a seriously great trike, though.
And then it all went wrong …
How did that cute little boy grow up to become the founder member of splendid rhythm and blues combo The Dubious Brothers?
And skinny, too!What a bastard!
Phil is a drummer. But he's also an excellent bassist - as seen here … if a little studious-looking - and a totally awesome guitar player.
Anyhoo …Happy Birthday, Phil!
My baby brother.
You know I hate YouTube, but I couldn't resist this.
Skip the first minute or so (unless you're a gay man in which case simply revel in the fabness of Babs).
It's around a minute and a half in that this gets very wrong indeed and veers off into pædo-pervy territory in a quite hilariously inappropriate manner.
So to honour Phil's birthday, sing along with Babs as she belts out one of my favourite songs of all time:
"I'm five,
I'm five,
I'm a big girl now,
I'm five,
etc …"
Then pop on over to Phil's blog and wish him a happy birthday.

Fabulous tribute! Love it. You might be one brother short any time now, but hey - what a great post from one's big brother. Love the nappy pix. :-)
Oh, I have many worse photos, Joy, but then so does Phil, so it's like the Cold War; we both have weapons far too awful to contemplate using so we only post the inoffensive ones.
I'm in love. Who wouldn't be, after all that? I adore the Blues photo. I think i'd have gone 'all stupid' in front of him, had i met him then, even despite the rude sign.
What a great series of photos, Dive. You did him proud - or stitched him up like a kipper, i can't decide...
Happy Birthday, Full of good wishes, Phil x
Hee hee. What a handsome devil he is, Lynn.
Holy crap !!!!
I don't remember most of that.
Is that Chris on drums and if so, where, when, how etc?
Oh, and be afraid, be very afraid.
Thanks Joy, thanks Lynn, I'm blushing, and thanks Bro for making me smile and realising that my memory is terrible.
Yup. That's Chris on drums, outside one of your favourite pubs, the Geldeston Locks.
You played there with The Larch several times over a couple of summers, on both bass and guitar.
Mum's got loads of photos. Your memory's getting as bad as mine.
And the pool shot is from the time you came with us to Portugal.
We really MUST get Lynn up here to meet you. Hee hee.
A great brotherly tribute. Dive, are you pinching poor Phil in that first photo?
I think I was feeling for a pulse.
It was probably a case of:
"Hold your little brother's hand."
"What? This is my little brother? It's bigger than ME!"
how delish, sugar! what a great dance down memory lane. now, off to wish your daring brother happy birthday! xoxox
I think he's gone fishing, Savannah. It's a lovely afternoon here, so he's probably down at the lake asleep in the sun.
This was a fun post Dive - great tribute your brother!
Classic series of photos! Big Pants has to be one of the funniest baby photos I've ever seen. It looks like you're attempting to leave a little frog or something in his tram. So sweet of you to post such a loving and thoughtful birthday tribute to your dear little brother. I can't wait for Full to repay the favor! Happy Birthday Full!
Cheers, Shazza!
Katie: I have worse "big pants" photos, but as I said to Joy; Phil has some equally dreadful photos of me, so we'll keep to the inoffensive ones.
One can't be too careful with siblings, photo albums and scanners.
So these are the inoffensive one's then are they?
I didn't go fishing in the end but did get a nice surprise as I was getting my gear sorted ready for wetting a line.
A pack of strawberry flavoured luncheon meat which had hidden in the bottom of my bag since around October last year I would think.
I didn't smell of strawberries anymore!!!
Ew!
It's probably evolved sufficiently so that if you threw it in the lake it would drag the fish out for you.
If it growls at you, run!
Gorgeous - all of it (except Babs). The boxing gloves really got me laughing.
"lead lined" nappies and "maturbation deterrence started early" - you're a shocker, Dive.
Off to Full's now to wish him HB.
You didn't like Babs?
I'm shocked, Mme!
Hee hee hee!
OH! That nappy pic is truly remarkable!! WAH-HA!!
I loved your tribute to The Devastating One! There's nothing quite like that brotherly love is there? I have one myself and he is My Precious(LOTR style) and I have many a mocking memory of him as well!
As for Babs. I'm a fan of hers for sure but that was about the strangest thing I've ever seen her do. You're weirdin' me out Barbara!
Wow. And what great photos...I wish that I had the goods on my sisters...
I used the ploy a few years back of buying a scanner and offering to scan all of mum's old albums onto CD for her, which gave me incomparable access to all of Phil's baby shots.
Hee hee.
