Not Perky

Yeah, I know it's summer but I'm still in a foul mood.

What the fuck is wrong with humans that we feel compelled to get depressed?
What possible evolutionary advantage does that give us?
And if it turns out not to be evolutionary but God-given, what kind of sicko deity would stick that one on us?
Fuck, fuck, fuck …

Can you tell I'm not feeling especially chipper today?

you need a change of scenery, sugar! xoxoxo (i know the feeling and we both know the answer.)

I never know the answer to anything, Savannah.
And when somebody tells me it's always too late.
Hey ho.
At least the video clip on Shazza's blog this morning reminded me that there are worse things out there.
xoxox

It has no evolutionary benefit except to remind us that we have emotions instead of just instinct. Sometimes I look at my cats, and by human standards they look depressed, all sprawled out on the floor and motionless but not quite asleep. I think they're just exceptionally relaxed.

I hope you cheer up soon enough, Dive.

Some emotions just suck, Robyn.
Though I admit that cats help cheer me up.
I suppose the evolutionary advantage it gives is that it makes me feel shitty enough to go out and beat the crap out of a woolly mammoth with a stick.
Then peel and eat it.

So my wishes didn't work. Pah! Why not, then, put on your best fine voice and walk up and down your sitting room reading from Pepys, Shakespeare, whatever. Get into another character anyway. By the time you've come back to your own, he may have cheered into a different mood x

I guess I'd rather be depressed than not feeling anythng...I have those days and they are horrible.

I like to put on really sad sappy music, watch horrible sappy movies with sad endings and cry until my eyes are red and puffy and my nose is red and running and I look like my face when through a round with Rocky Balboa....then I run and look in the mirror...realize how pathetic I look and somehow that cheers me up!

It can only get better from there - I hope!

It doesn't work every time...but it's just my way to kind of giving in to the blues for a little while anyway.

Chins up Dive...this too shall pass like gas outta ya ass!

;)

Thank you, Lynn. I'm feeling a little better now, cramming for my Japanese exam and listening to 櫻井智's wonderful album 十二の旋律。

Cheers, Shazza. Gas out my ass indeed, Hee hee. I actually quite enjoy being blue, just as long as it doesn't go on for too long. Once it lasted two years and that truly sucked. With any luck I'll be fine by the weekend.

It's neither the psycho-deity within nor without. It's you telling yourself that all is relative.
Y' can't feel nothin' without a reference frame. If y' start feeling like shit, then that's the base line. Y' can't git no worse 'n that.
Thus, y' c'n only git more better at bein' better at wot y' aspire to. There's only one way; so aspire to 't.
At times like this everything else is crap so ignore the crap 'n shit 'n take the narrow focus. Shit splatters so the narrow focus gets y'out.
No worries ole son !!

I Love You.

Bummer to hear you're still blue. I think it might have something to do with the fact that you haven't taken a vacation since 1990, but that's just my opinion. I think you should forego The Smiths and search out Tom Lehrer's happy tunes "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park" and "We Will All Go Together When We Go." If you don't know Tom Lehrer, I think you'll enjoy him. He was big in the late 50s but I think his songs are great even today. I dare you not to at least giggle after hearing these songs.

I loved Prudence's answer to it all. I love her and I love you too, Dive.

Which is kind of odd considering that I have never heard either of your voices, never smelled your body stamp scents and never seen the color of your eyes.

I tend to be like Winston Churchill. I have my black dogs and they go away when they go away no matter what anyone says or does. It never helps me when someone (my sisters) reminds me that I do not have cancer, I am not living on the street and I have all of my limbs.

It just makes me more depressed because now I feel GUILTY and depressed.

Sometimes the only thing that gets me through the day is the sound of my child laughing. I wish I could bottle it and send it to you, because I know it would help.

Hang in there, friend. Just..one foot in front of the other.

Monsieur B: I have just got home (I've been next door; Jerry has tried to cheer me up with tea on the lawn. Peculiarly English, considering he is German), and shall narrow my focus to a glass of scotch.

Prudence: I love you, too.
You know me so well.

Katie: I loved Tom Lehrer when I was a kid. Just thinking back to those tunes is making the corner of my mouth twitch into a smile.
Thank you.

Maria: Gosh, that's both Prudence and yourself that I love. What a tart I am.
My black dogs come to visit mercifully rarely these days, though in the nineties they almost destroyed me.
I have just been next door, sitting out on the lawn for three hours or so, chatting with Jerry and his 92 year old mother and Marion and John (my other neighbours) about "the old days"; a subject that all old folk love to natter about. It cheered me up no end so I'm happy to declare that this must have been a tiny black puppy visiting and not a proper black dog at all.

Thank you all for being so kind and thoughtful.

Don't you just love it when the bell on the iMac goes "ding", at 3:45 AM, and it's Dive, returned from tea on the lawn, next door.
I couldn't sleep after reading your post tonight so I thought I would pop back and see if you're OK.

Was it a nice cuppa? I've just put the kettle on so I'll have an English breakfast tea in a mo, myself.

Hope you're feeling a bit more chipper, old son.

dive said...

Much better, thank you Monsieur.
And as you always seem to be up and working in the middle of the night I must apologise for the slur on your immaculate reputation that I left in Mme's comments box this morning.
Hee hee.

Hee, hee, indeed, Dive !

Life would be a pretty dull place if we never had an opinion, a joke, a leg to pull or someone to take the mickey out of.

A little mouse ran up a lady's leg and hurtled into her bosom.
She said, "hello, nice little mouse, you must be a titmouse !"
"No madame", said the cute little mouse, "I'm Mickey Mouse, but my brakes failed".

And I still haven't made that cuppa.

I'm sorry you are having these doubly dark dreadful days Dive. Four out of five leading psychologist recommend heavy use of the letter "D" when describing negative states of the mind. I can tell you first hand that it has just distracted me for a minute or so resulting in a miniscule release of serotonin in my own brain; concluding that this fictional study may be more true than it would have appeared at conception.

I think I have a different sort of mental illness today.

It IS extremely difficult to remain optimistic or even just stay above pessimism at all when the world seems to be filled with trouble and nastiness isn't it? But I don't think it's ever going to get easier down here. Double Dog Damn-it! I'm sorry for the curse, the "D's" are making my mouth dingy now.

Perhaps you could go out with some friends for a lighthearted mid-week laugh. Or have a nice roasted kangaroo with brother Full.
I don't know. When I'm depressed, the last thing I want to do is expose my hideousness to others. It does usually help distract from the dully's though.
Hope you feel better soon Dive! :~}

Change of climate should do the trick, I agree with savannah.

Was your train to town on time this morning? If the answer is yes, smile!

I do.
:-)

Just read all the comments.

Thank evolution for friends like monsieur (I wasn't going to say thank God, was I?). Aussie philosophy at its best.

Tea on the lawn, how very British indeed. With scotch.

Oh Dive. I love you and Prudence and Maria. And the cats next door love you too. Can you borrow them for a night? They would snuggle and purr and make the world feel right.
Even a little puppy is enough to make one want to crawl back into bed. I've had a few little puppies this week and, not having to go anywhere, I find that I can't. My agoraphobia is running rampant and I can't leave my house. I even missed Monika's last day in her shop in the village! I missed my girls night out on Tuesday and dinner out with M.B last night too. So, I feel guilty and depressed too but with me it is just the cold and windy weather. I'm waiting for the wind to drop and the sun to shine. Mind you, it is difficult to be too depressed when M.B makes me laugh my way out of it. Nathalie is right, as always. Scout on the other hand I think might be wrong. Cats do get depressed and bored too. They like a bit of action so go next door and borrow one.

Hmmmmm....personally, my friend, I don't feel compelled. I feel hormonal or completely stressed out whether I like it or not. If all else fails, Dive, blame in on your ovaries. Or pretend you have some. That should pick you up!
