A version of B.B. King's "The Thrill Is Gone" from one of the Sunday Blues Club sessions.
I love this version because Laurie plays such a subtle, sublime, sensual, sinuous, sexy sax solo.
He is a master of understatement and his phrasing at the start of the second verse of his sax break gives me the chills every time I hear it.
I'm playing Old Les on this one in case anyone's remotely interested.
Next week - or maybe even before, if I can't think of anything else to write about - I will be dipping into the box of strangeness that I found up in the attic for more of the musical prehistory of Dive.

Instead, here's one of mum taken last night with Martin Taylor, one of the world's finest jazz guitar players and a hero of mine.You'll know from the past that mum is a member of The Mad Bints and is always off at gigs. When she phoned me to say "I'm off to see Martin Taylor. Have you heard of him? What's he like?" I almost died of jealously!
I played her his "Kiss and Tell" album and she went "Wow!"
It was too late to get me a ticket by then, but next time I'll be there to see him.

OMG I just listened to all of it with my eyes closed. A bit of a slow start but boy oh boy, it was so incredible. Loved the sax and the guitar solos.

When your page loaded i thought i'd clicked your Mum's blog by mistake as i was there last night. Talk about deja vu! Isn't it great that she had such a good night out with the Mad Bints? I hesitate to call her that as it seems so rude.
Martin Taylor kind of looks like a straight non drugged george michael.
That was a sublime sax solo, and I'll look forward to that retro drum machine.

Nope. My first two drum machines were a Roland TR505 (classic) and a Boss Doctor Rhythm. I think it's the Boss on next week's track.

Actually, this IS my amateurish stuff; all the out-takes and sanity band stuff rather than the properly recorded stuff. Next week's is even MORE amateurish as it's from back when I got my first four-track and my first drum machine, so it's fairly excruciating, but funny.
