You know, whenever I think of London and England, I think of castles and old churches and villages and brownstones. This modern architectural tour you're providing is taking me to, er, new heights.
I would absolutely barf if I had to ride that thing.
I'm with you and Katherine on this - OMFG! I had exactly the same thoughts, Dive, when I saw the thing in other pictures you've posted. What some people won't do for a thrill, when they could have been doing this ...
Katherine, that building in the background is part of the old South Bank Centre, currently being totally overhauled and smartened up (and not before time). Oh, and we don;t have any brownstones over here; lots of brick, but no brownstone, which is a shame as I'd love to sit out on the front steps, Noo Yoik style.
Speedway: Hahahahahahahahahahaha! Woohoo! That video is even better than the real thing. Brilliant!
What I particularly enjoyed was the rapport between Baumgartner and Kittinger, thier respect and concern for each other. Then, when he landed on his feet, he trotted a few steps and came to a halt, as though it was just a routine jump from a plane.
It was great that Kittinger was so closely involved in the whole thing; he brought credibility and gravitas to the party, and he must have had a secret grin when he realised his old freefall time record still stands fifty years later. The whole thing made for a pretty special evening's viewing.
