The old and the new!

The carousel is a pretty thing. I've loved them since I was a little girl, but hardly ever got to ride. Is this one fairly new?

Oh, NYC is going to have a giant Ferris wheel built on Staten Island. It should be open in a year or two, I think.

That's what I was thinking, Mum.

Speedway, this is a Victorian one. The Staten Island ferris wheel sounds like it could be fun … though not this week. I do hope you're all okay over there.

Thanks, Dive. The Ferris wheel will be patterned on London's Wheel.

It's just gray, drizzly and about 42 degrees F here, but take a look at your Guardian website, especially the US edition. Whew.

That's a charming carousel. I like how it says: "For Your Pleasure" along the top -- and then "NO Standing" underneath.

The Ferris wheel looks literally breath-taking.

We've had a howling gale straight from the North Pole (there's no land between the North Pole and North Norfolk, and when it blows, it BLOWS) and continuous hailstorms, Speedway, so I sympathise with the folk on your east coast.

Hee hee. Well spotted, Ms.M.
Yes, the London Eye is a great ride; I've been on there quite a few times now. If you get to London on a decent day, try their combined "ride on the Eye and boat trip down the Thames" ticket. It's a good way to see the whole of London.
