It's not all olde worlde charm and hallucinogenically carved dark timber at the Supreme Court; Court number 2 is bright and airy and modern.
This lovely glass panel is an echo of the etched screen at the start of yesterday's post, only with pretty colours.
Apparently some Welsh folk got uppity because the leek is not in flower while everybody else's emblems are, but that doesn't really matter because in the real world the Welsh don't really matter.
The curtains are spectacularly spiffy; hand made by a Scottish company called Timrous Beasties (
check out their website) who I can truthfully say are fucking amazing artists.
That's Hugh, down at the bottom, playing at tour guide as he's the one who did most of the work.
He put a little private joke in the screen at the back of the room: it says "Justice cannot be for one side alone but must be for both", the joke being that it is written so that you can read it from both sides.
I know: Architects need to get out more.
The clock's nice, too. I'd love one of those in my kitchen, but unfortunately there is only one of those and they won't let me have it.
Tomorrow, we'll be exploring the Supreme Court's private law library; a place that's very firmly off limits to the public, so enjoy a privileged peek.

It's a really intriguing place to hang around in, but of course it's not a place people are usually allowed to hang around, so make the most of it.
I checked the site for Timrous Beasties. They have so much beautiful stuff! The bespoke curtains are beautifully colored, drawn and woven. The thing that brings it all together for me is the quality of drawing thoughout, especially in the design of the seal and the etched glass panel above; the artist has been concerned with making both the negative and positive space interesting. The thicks and thins of the line all work in the overall compositition. It seems as though nothing has been neglected. Damn. It's just f***ing good.
Is that an omega drawn into the design in the glass panel?

Yes, Speedway; that is indeed an omega in the design. It's there to signify that the decisions made in the Supreme Court are final. Well spotted.
Most of the design is Hugh's. Yes, he's good, but that's what we're paid to do and that's what we're good at.
Ms.M. that's the difference between the Supreme Court (who don't actually try cases, but simply consider the law and constantly tweak it to ensure justice is unpolluted by political or financial power) and lawyers in general, who are as corrupt as every other powerful person.
