I've scoured the interweb for this for years with absolutely no success.
One of the finest lyrics ever written; the tale of Bob and Jane and … er … a different Bob.
Long deleted and beloved only of Michael and myself, this silly little song was a staple in The Blind Willies' set list.
Unfortunately I don't have a recording of us performing it (which is a shame as our version knocked spots off the original) but should I ever succeed in dragging Michael back into the studio I shall be sure to rectify that.
Then earlier today I was scouring the attic for something else and - as stated in Newton's Law of Attics - inevitably I forgot what it was I went up there for and got sidetracked by some boxes of cassettes I thought I'd thrown out years ago.
Imagine my "YAY!" when I came across the original, self titled album by the "Colorblind James Experience," knowing full well that it contained this very song.
So here it is in all its gleefully unresolved lyrical glory.
Seemingly unavailable anywhere else on the interweb, you can now listen to it here in tribute to Colorblind James who sadly died a while back.
I even typed out the lyrics:
A Different Bob
by the late and sadly missed Colorblind James.
My baby was talking in her sleep.
She said "Bob"
I said "What?"
She said "Bob"
I said "I'm Bob"
She said "No …
I mean a different Bob."
And so I asked her the next day;
I said "Jane"
She said "What?"
I said "Who's Bob?"
She said "You're Bob."
I said "No …
I mean a different Bob."
My baby was run over by a truck.
It was a Dodge.
As she lay dying
She called for Bob,
I touched her hand and said "I'm here."
She said "No …
I mean a different Bob."
My baby was talking in her sleep …

It's a very silly little song, Savannah. I just love the way it leaves the "Who's this different Bob?" question unresolved.

Ah...will come back to hear the song...am at work and need to look serious and all that shit.
But, I can't tell you how many times I have gone in one room to get something and then got sidetracked and forgot all about it and ended up with something different all together.
Nice groove on a snowy Thursday morning. Thanks.
Maria: Life would be dull indeed if we always did just what we set out to do and didn't get sidetracked by serendipity.
Hi, Prudence. Do we get to see the snow this year? Get your camera out, young lady; you live in such a beautiful place, please don't deprive us.
BIZARRE!
On another note (heh heh)...
Tag!
Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you.
Oh, crap! A meme tag!
Hokey dokey, Katherine.
Actually, I love these because I don't have to think of a post to write, I can just waffle.
Yay!
how smooth that is. hee hee Poor Bob. You really do need to record it yourself, Dive.
We will as soon as I can get Michael in the studio again. Then I'll post it and you can all suffer.
Hi Dive! I'm desperately trying to catch up on blogs between watching the boys sled and listening to huge chunks of ice fall off of my house. I see you've managed to put up a few good meaty ones lately so that's an accomplishment.
That is a funny casual song :). I liked it. Did you see the creature in your attic or does it hibernate in Winter?
You will see some of my ice storm shots when you get a chance to check my blog. It is not snowy beauty like what Prudence no doubt has, but it is startling.
Catchy little tune. I can't seem to get it out of my head now. The mental picture of Jane under the Dodge is kind of disturbing however.
Very fun song, although I feel bad for both Bobs. At least Jane was just talking in her sleep and didn't really get run over by a Dodge (I say hopefully). Did you ever figure out what you were originally looking for up in the attic?
Hi, Shan!
Your post today was awesome! The cabin-fever narrated movie was a hoot! I love the way you react to the mirrors. Hee hee.
The Thing That Eats Spiders is still living in the attic, though it stays in the shadows when I go up there, just crunching the odd spider.
Neetzy: It's one of those songs that I just fell in love with the first time I heard it. An innocuous little tune with a truly strange lyric. Fun!
Katie: I did figure out what I wanted from the attic and had to go back up there and fetch it. I will never, EVER find out who the different Bob was, though.
Sigh … Another of life's little mysteries.
