After yesterday's bag of shite, here's a song dedicated to my train operator, "National Express".
For anyone not familiar with them, they used to (and still do) run the crappiest coach service in the world (which this song was written to celebrate/satirise) and - in a particularly nasty bout of sadism - the government allowed them to take over my train line.
I have no idea why the lovely Neil has set his video in a National Health hospital, but listen to the lyrics for a taste of my commute (over nine hours yesterday but hopefully only seven today … ha).
As soon as I get a free moment I will catch up on my blog-visiting.
Promise.
In the meantime, here is some light music.
Everybody sing …

Thanks Dive, I love Neil Hannon's lyrics. This video makes me want to see 'One flew over' again. It also makes me want to goose the next person I see bending over in front of me! lol.
Now I know why Hannon calls it 'The Divine Comedy'. He's a master tunesmiff and no mistake, Guv. "Becoming Just Like Alfie" is another fave of mine.
Just caught up with listening to "Evil Honey Bee" - glorious! And do you know what? You're soooo much better than Joe Bonamassa - seriously.
Dive dear, I only got half way through (the song). You might have to publish the lyrics for me. I don't know how you cope with all that commuting, but I can see the relevance to the pysch ward. That's where I'd be too if I had to do so much commuting. How many years until you retire?
Well, the shock treatment almost helped. Fun.
I enjoyed the lyrics and, yes I did sing along.
Trouble is, I wonder how many people can fit on your train when their 'arses are the size of a small country' ?
No wonder the thing breaks down so oft.
Love this jolly happy craziness Dive! I really like your music choices lately. We do have crossover tastes I believe. Can I get you on board at all with Tears for Fears? That's the clincher. I was simply mad for Roland Orzabal back in the 80's. :D
Seriously though about that home in the country. I think your theory is flawed. You just can't commute your life away and expect to be happy. Can you?
Pea: Go for it! Goose away!
Istvanski: Hee hee. "Alfie" is a great song. There are SO MANY great Divine Comedy songs. My current favourite would have to be Our Mutual Friend. Wonderful orchestration and a brilliantly bittersweet lyric.
I had to look up Joe Bonamassa. There are so many guitar players around these days it is impossible to keep track of them all.
And then it turns out that my brother had put one of Joe's albums on my iPod so I took a listen. He is rather splendid.
Be careful where such outrageous flattery gets you, though.
Mme: The commute will kill me long before I get to retirement age.
Robyn: The Divine Comedy are brilliant.
Monsieur B: Most of us have to stand, so being surrounded by fat arses at least makes it slightly more comfortable.
Tears For Fears, Shan? Scrivens! I did like "Mad World" (or at least the version they played for the Donnie Darko soundtrack).
I would love to get rid of the commute.
However, if I sold my lovely big house in the country it would not buy me more than a shared bedsit room in London (I did look into it), so NO WAY!
Besides, I get to work from home two days a week now which eases the stress considerably.
I'd go for a big home in the country any day too Dive. You've made the right choice.
I know, Mme.
I am sitting here today enjoying the peace and absolute quiet.
The windows are open and I can hear no traffic, no planes, no barking dogs, no kids, no sirens, no people at all and it is wonderful.
Sigh …
