Crappy Birthday

I can fight it off no longer. Time has beaten the crap out of me and I collapse into the reeking pismire that is my forty-eighth birthday.

Luckily I'll be in a meeting all day which will keep my mind off the utter arse-ness of it all.

When I get home tonight I shall drink myself into a stupor, and hopefully the world will explode before I wake up.

Whoop de do …

Many happy, er, commiserations. I've given up caring how "old" I actually am now because I got into a state when I was twenty three, thinking "that's it - I'm past it now, boo hoo".

Well, you have to develop some sort of philosophical angle to it all ...

Wow! You were twenty-three?
I didn't know people grew to be so young.

Thanks for the commiserations; much better than the miserable "happy birthday"s I've been getting in the office (and then only because I bought a tub of Quality Street for each floor) …

I'm sorry you are not taking on this new day with exhileration and enthusiasm. Here I am to add my miserable happy birthday wish.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DIVE

I'll drink a toast to you this evening.

Oh, Dive. Happy Birthday. You are not old. And you happen to share a birthday with one of my best friends (the one in Tennessee). So I shall drink a toast to both of you this evening.

I am with Betty. The oldest I ever felt was twenty-two.

I hope you find something to celebrate today. You should. You're you. And that's a beautiful thing.

If you were a politician, you would be considered a mere child. Then again, you'd be a politician. If you look at it that way, reeking pismire doesn't seem so bad.

Thank you, wonderful folk.

As for something to celebrate, the nurse came round and gave us a flu jab today, so I'm not even supposed to drink away my crappiness this evening.
And the train was late …
Life may be a reeking pismire, but at least it's MY reeking pismire, so I suppose I'll celebrate that.
Green teas all round as I'm off the booze …

Hopefully back to my facecious, cynical self tomorrow …

You got jabbed on your birthday. Ouch.

Oh well, you can get drunk tomorrow?

Damned right!

When I was 25, I remained 25 for several years. After I started to admit that I was in my 30s I got upset about it, but that was allayed by the gradual realisation that instead of looking down on me even though I knew everything (as all 25 year olds do) people were instead looking up to me despite the fact that I actually know nothing. I like that respect (and let's hope it's proportional to age, Old K). I'm now looking forward to being old, wearing purple and being a complete curmudgeon. I'm in training now.

If you want people to call you 'young man' again, just hang around with older people - it really works.

Thank you young lady.
You have possibly the best curmudgeon tutor on the planet.
Where's my fee?

Cheers, Rich.

I sincerely hope you have a better day than I have had (now going to bed, booze-less and miserable).
But yeah, we are the generation born with Rock and Roll; soooo much cooler than all these kids …
Hoorah for that at least.

Many Happy Returns for your 48th Birthday Dive - it's Mme Benaut here - not sure how to comment using a different account? - you are truly just a babe in arms and the best is yet to come - I'm a '55 model and my 50's so far are fantastic, despite all sorts of medical traumas over the last few years (5 operations). You are truly fortunate in having your 78s and guitar to assist you with your reminiscences. The women in London will cotton on very soon I'm sure. Count your blessings (many, since the dim, dark trauma of the outside privy). Remembering the good times about your Father and honouring his memory with stories of his life is wonderful. Be assured that your very entertaining blog keeps many, many people fascinated. Besides, M.B would tell you that birthdays last a week so it matters not that you can't get stuck into the Bollinger this evening, there's always tomorrow ... and a few days after that. As he would say, you'll soon get the hang of it!
