It hit the lake with a huge, messy sploosh!
I reached for my camera but was too late to catch the splashdown.
I did, however, capture the aftershocks and managed to photograph the past tense of "sploosh" … the still surface suffering swirly perturbations producing pretty patterns (and some unnecessary alliteration, but I'm a sucker for that as you well know).
And yes, it was as cold as it looks.

What have you done now? Don't catch pneumonia! But yeah, that's a pretty picture, kind of like a piece of Van Gogh's painting, like Starry Night.
Glad you liked my web of light.

I did! It was spectacular, Joy!
I've only seen it in the daylight. I'll have to take a trip in there on Saturday night.
Now thats cool enough to put on a canvas
At full res it makes a spiffy desktop.
There is so much in this photo--peacock plumage and oil slicks. It IS trippy.
It was also several degrees blow zero. How that swan didn't go EEEEKKK!!!!!! when its bits hit the water is quite beyond me.
It is an amazing picture and Kate's right - I'd love to see a huge version on canvas. Reminds me of Munch. What did the swan say? Whatever it was *is* swannish for EEEEK!, I bet.
You said perturbations! I love that word!
It was a mute swan, Pea. They never say much.
It did have its eyes VERY wide open, though!
Fresh: I'm going to have to use that word more often.
Beautiful, Dive. Swans, those graceful creatures are surprisingly ungainly, nay downright clumsy upon take-off and landing.
Starry, starry pond.....
