Well, let's big it up for common sense invading America.
A huge hoorah for Robyn, Sassy, James, Tai, Rich, Jennifer et al for changing the world for the better.
And to anyone else who voted (but didn't vote Republican), a big thank you from the British people.
Any inquiry the Democrats now launch into Iraq will do immeasurable good over here by damaging Blair and maybe even getting rid of him sooner than we dare hope.
The rest of the world is pretty happy with you as well.
Of course, you've now got to do the same thing all over again.
Two years hence, all good lefties like Sassy must vote "Evil Lite" once more instead of Green to ensure we don't lose all we've gained.
Only when the Republicans are firmly out of power can the Green and Indy lobby hope to do some real good.
But in the mean time, thanks for the last twenty-four hours of sleepless excitement (accompanied by enough scotch to ensure my headache hangs around for a while longer yet).
As I write, we await Montana and Virginia for the Senate. Close, but still hopeful.
Wow. What a day. Big smiles all round.

Grinning an Evil Lite Grin from across the pond.
Hee hee.
Hee hee hee hee.
I'll stop this now before it gets out of hand … Yikes, I nearly put a smiley emoticon there!
If I ever use an emoticon, please feel free to shoot me in the head.
While the Dems are regaining control, let's hope they can actually act like a unified party and do something. I think it was Will Rogers who said, "I don't belong to any organized party. I'm a democrat."
On a more local scale, the casinos lost, and the tobacco lobbyists lost. Unfortunately, so did some local school districts who were unable to get their levies passed. That's always sad.
"There is nothing more melancholy than a battle lost, save perhaps for a battle won"
If I remembered it right, that was our old Duke of Wellington.
It's going to be a tough couple of years and the big battle has yet to be won. Only then can we hope to get back to local, grassroots politics and do some good.
But for today, I'm still a grinning and dancing fool …
Locally things did OK here. We have our first African-American governor. TK is going back to the Senate. My favorite represenative is going back to Congress. We can't buy wine in grocery stores (since that was a local business issue, I'm not sad), and unfortunately child care workers working from their homes can't unionize.
Still, I look at the national picture, and I'm thrilled.
Thrilled enough to use an emoticon, but I won't.
We had an African American candidate for governor, a republican actually. And he lost to the dem, a white guy. All very interesting these days, but I have to admit that over the last several years I have become less and less politically minded.
Yes, we got our first African-American governor at the expense of electing our first woman governor. As much as I would have loved to have voted for a woman, I couldn't do it. She was an awful candidate, and she ran a dirty campaign.
Ah, but you now have Nancy, third in line to the throne; though of course politicians both sides of the pond are hardly a representative bunch, in terms of gender and ethnicity … or religion, even though you now have your first muslim in public office.
And Rumsfeld jumped/was pushed while I listened to the radio on the way home. I celebrated by buying a bottle of wine from the buffet car, so please excuse any typos.
What a great day.

Thumpin' at the rodeo!
I hope you're as drunk as I am. Your last comment made me giggle uncontrollably.
I feel like I'm at some transatlantic party. Cheers!
