if you want the glass, the surroundings are too dark;
if you want the surroundings the window is too light;
if you Photoshop one onto the other it looks stupid.

I've been in a kind of spiritual mood lately, making connections between all things that lead to a concept of God (a word I use mostly for the sake of convenience). God does exist, but not in the way we usually think of. I feel God in these windows. Art and beauty are definitely manifestations of the God force that live in all of us.

The window is a Victorian replacement. I can't find any record of what was there before but it certainly wouldn't have been a cheesy moralising storyboard like this. The Victorians desecrated our great mediæval churches, whitewashing over the beautiful wall paintings, sticking stone fig leaves on genitalia and generally sanitising anything interesting with prudish censorship.

Photographing the inside of a church or cathedral is difficult, but both your photos here are lovely... Although the stained glass is washed with light, the architecture and lighting is exquisited. The angle of this shot emphasizes the height and length of this cathedral.

Genie, you are too kind. It's hard to take a bad photo inside Norwich Cathedral (though I've managed it on occasion); most of the while all you can do is look up and go "Oooooh."
