What the fuck?
Er … Welcome to my sixth year in Blogville.
On Monday, August 7th, 2006 I started this thing and at almost the same moment Robyn started her own blog over in Ohio. To be frank neither of us have any idea why we're still here but here we are, so happy birthday to us, the oldest neighbours in our little Blogville street.
I was going to have a party but I hate parties.
I was going to spend a few days going back through the best and the worst of the last five years but there's getting on for fifteen hundred posts back there, some of which are thousands of words long, and that's too much like hard work.
I was going to write about how Blogville has changed over the years, much like any other small town.
I was going to write about the people who moved out and the other people who moved in, but going through old comments boxes from years ago and wondering where those people are now got me all maudlin so I won't.
Suffice to say that five years ago yesterday I started this stupid blog with no idea of what a blog was. And here I am today, older but still no wiser.

Ah but what fun, ranty and wonderful posts you have done, and the friends you have made...
Happy Birthday to you and Robyn..xx
Yay! Happy Birthday to us!
I'm not sure about wonderful, but I've certainly scraped every last word out of Roget's Profanisaurus over the past five years, and been responsible for some new entries, too.
Happy blog birthday, Dive! If nothing else, I got to meet you and Beryl, and live in person, too. Here's to five more years of Blogville.
Happy blog-birthday, Robyn!
I wonder where we'll be in five years. Still putting the world to rights over endless coffees, I hope.
Here's to Blogville and good neighbours.
I for one am blessed that you began this journey, that you found Sassy, which in turn led me to you! XXOO Most amorously.
Pru
Prudence, I found Dive through Sassy, too. And now she's gone by the way side. It's a pity.
Most amorously right back at you, Pru. XXOO. Hee hee.
Robyn, I think Sassy's still out there somewhere. Her blog occasionally comes back to life for a few posts, but I have a feeling she's sorted out her love life and no longer feels the need to come back to Blogville for more than a flying visit.
Sassy came and did some freelance work for my company two winters ago. I haven't heard from her since. I miss that Sass!
She sure was a bundle of fun.
IF only you had the opportunity to drink a few pints with her! She is a total blast.
Happy blog birthday Dive and Scout.
Whilst some of us do come and go you have been a constant and a terribly amusing one at that.
Ah, if only, Pru.
Thanks, Kate. I think amusingly terrible would be a better description. We've certainly shared a long strange trip.
Happy Blog-o-versary, sugarpie! What a great day for Blogville and me because I know you, Robyn and some many other deliciously wonderful bloggers! xoxoxoxoxo
Thanks, Savannah. Hey, it's YOUR five year anniversary in November. Doesn't time fly? xoxoxoxoxo
Oh yes happy happy milestone! Your silver plated ceremonial 5 year pen should be arriving in the mail shortly no doubt!
Well, I think we are all glad to have joined you for some piece of this first five years. You are clever beyond belief and equally as entertaining! The blog suits you well and you should stay here and keep evolving with it if you find any satisfaction in it. And I think you still do overall. I'm so glad I had that year where both kids were in school and I could really dig in and get to know some of you wonderful people. I love the blogosphere and you'll always be one of my favorite people in it. :D
Happy birth-o-blog day! Your place is still my favorite hangout in the neighborhood. I don't get out much, but try to tend to the garden once a week or so.
Oh Dive, oh dear, five years? That's a hell of a legacy. I'm so pleased I've joined in, even so recently.
I hope in a thousand years the archaeologists will be able to read all this.
Happy Birthday to you and Robyn.
Happy blog-o-versary to you and Robin! I can't remember how I came upon your blog (maybe through Lynn's), but I've been reading it for several years now -- and thoroughly enjoy your intelligence and sense of humor. Your photography, too.
I also started blogging in 2006, in September. It will be interesting to see where Blogville is in 5 years.
But for now, let's have a toast -- to Blogville!
Shan, we've certainly shared some fun times together (and some great debates, too … hee hee). I almost stopped blogging when everybody ran away to Facebook but luckily some of you are returning so I'm glad I stayed.
Neetzy, the feeling is mutual; I love hanging around in your art gallery and wandering around Neetzyville. We're both too busy to blog every day (which is why I've resorted to photo posts) but it's worth it when we find the time.
Petrea, I was hoping to be up for parole by now but it seems I'm in here for life. I'm mighty glad to have found you and the Pasadena gang. There must be more bloggers per square mile in Pasadena than anywhere else on the planet.
I'll drink to that, Ms.M. And in September we can have another party to celebrate your own first five years. Yay!
It is so typical of me to have missed your birthday. I always seem to be a day late on everything.
I know. I know. I once had a reader tell me that she started my blog at the beginning and went through it, post by post. Said it took her 3 days. All I could think was...WHY? Sometimes, I pick a post at random and read it from years ago and I'm always kind of startled that I am still here too. I started my blog because I was sick of having to answer e-mails from my sisters. Now, my sisters rarely read my blog anymore...funny.
Isn't it weird, reading old posts? I sometimes wonder what on earth I was thinking. Sheesh!
It's good that we're still here though. Sharing your experiences with Liv and Bing has been such fun.
Dive, this means I have been reading you for almost five years! I feel like I know you, or at least the part of you that cracks me up and gets me thinking.
I think my own five year blogging anniversary is approaching. Hard to believe.
Scary how times flies, eh, Katherine?
