Stained Glass Sunday

Non-ecclesiastic stained glass this week. In fact not even stained glass, merely coloured glass. But pretty nonetheless. This is in the entrance to le Grand Palais.

That's the kind of color I'd like to eat! Or dream in.

Where can I look for your paintings? I want to show John.

It was certainly eye-catching on a grey Parisian day, Petrea.

There's a few drawings and a painting somewhere under the "Art" link in my sidebar. The rest are stored in cupboards and are unlikely to see the light of day unless I get a bigger house.

How was that done, Dive? Are the colored bits of, say, a transom window that's been covered with a graphic design of colored film? How do you differentiate between colored and stained glass?

Stained glass (the real thing) is made by melting glass with metallic oxides to produce different colours. Coloured glass like this is just surface colours baked or even simply stuck on. This is an internal screen that has had colour applied to give a spiffy effect.

It is still beautiful. Sunlight streaming through coloured glass is like nothing else. It is a wonderful thing to walk through coloured air!

Exquisite photo! The colors are just beautiful. I like Petrea's idea; colors to dream in.

A very "painterly" image, Dive. ... By the way, I took a look at some of your drawings. Excellent stuff! ... I also came across your post about our meeting in London. Feels like it was yesterday - and a million years ago! ... We must do that again, you know. ... Hope you're well, buddy.

The Blue and Green part reminds me of my dragonfly lamp, which show a good llght on Dad's photo below it and think of you and Pea of course..

What a fabulous phrase, Neetzy: to walk through coloured air.
Trippy!

The colours really startled me, Ms.M. I just peered in the door on a grey day and they ambushed my eyes.

I was reading the same post myself, Lucio. It does seem an age ago. I only get to London a couple of times a month now, just to take stuff into the office. I miss being there all the time and having the freedom to wander the galleries (but boy howdy I do NOT miss the commute).

It's a beautiful lamp, Mum. Pea really poured all of her fantastic skills into making it.

I must be in one of my trippy modes with my perverted vegetable rodeo and walking through colours. Heehee. Next I'll be staring at my hands looking for trails...

… and eating entire boxes of dry cereal while giggling.
Ah, youth …

Okay, it took me a while (because Blogger has been sending comment responses to my spam folder) but I looked up your paintings and showed them to John. "He's good," he said. "He's obviously been looking at Rembrandt. Send me the link."

Neetzy, you rebel.

Nothing so grand as Rembrandt, Petrea. Back when I had the patience to paint in oils I was more influenced by the Norwich School (inevitably). That painting on the blog is of St.Benet's Abbey, just down river from me and a favourite subject of the Norwich School painters. I still love them; I have three Cotmans hanging in my living room (from the days when I had money). Thank John for the compliment. It made me feel all "Aww gee shucks."
