Here's A Duster - Off You Go

I don't know what it is about me but the first thing I always think of whenever I enter a cathedral, castle, stately home, museum or any other large building is "Sheesh! Think of all the housework!"
Robyn will recall my horror at all the dust in Westminster Abbey. Whoever looks after those statues needs a good hard slap upside the head.
This frieze is in Notre Dame. Here's a duster and a step-ladder. Don't miss a spot or I'll notice.

Oh, and would somebody please be so kind as to explain the baby-slaughtering scene?

As soon as I saw the photo I thought of Westminster Abbey and the day with Robyn, how amazed we were about all the dust...

Talking of which when you look in here Robyn, I have been given a lot of lovely Bramley Apples, am running out of ideas of how to find more uses for them apart from pies, baked apples and just freezing them. Help.

Chutney!

Good idea Son!

When it comes to good ideas I always think with my stomach. Apart from anything else, it's a lot bigger than my brain.

This is why there are no statues in mosques, sugar! ;)

So much easier to keep clean, Savannah. xoxoxoxo

Dust? Dust is a place marker - pick up a vase, know EXACTLY where to return it.

Gimme a hi-speed Daywalt drill with a nice puffy polishing disk and a Dremmel tool for the small bits, and I'll have the baby-killing king polished off by the end of the day.

Didn't Abraham have to choose between two of his sons to offer to God and just before the deed God called the whole thing off.??
Many years of Sunday School, nuff said!

Mum, try making some apple crisp or apple fritters...I can send you some recipes if you'd like.

Place marker? Hee hee, Speedway. You sound like a teenager. I hope you don't have a floordrobe.

Prudence, Dylan put it so much better than The Bible:
God said to Abraham, “Kill me a son”
Abe says, “Man, you must be puttin’ me on”
God say, “No.” Abe say, “What?”
God say, “You can do what you want Abe, but
The next time you see me comin’ you better run”
Abe says, “Where do you want this killin’ done?”
God says, “Out on Highway 61”

Sing along …

Mmmm … Apple fritters!

No floordrobe. Between work and the boat, one day stuff got ahead of me, I got behind and never caught up.

Didn't King Herod have all 1st born sons killed off in attempt to stave off Jesus? I left Sunday school early on, never went back.

I think we're getting warmer on the baby-killing.

You should get yourself a floordrobe. You never need to worry about vacuuming any more as you can never see the floor for clothes.

Look at the frieze: there's the king, there's the baby being stabbed, then there's a media guy taping the whole thing for the news at 11, then there's Joseph and Mary leaving town to go declare themselves for tax. Not much different than now.

WV: vashings = vanishings with bits missing.

Speedway has the right idea! I have seen some feeble attempts at dusting in churches and it looks as if they are just moving the dust-bunnies around. They need a Swiffer (or Swifter?) to actually pick up the dust.

I LOVE apple fritters and fix them only on New Year's morning... be right there at your mom's house!

Yeah, it wasn't Abraham, but the Pharoah issued a decree to kill babies, thus Moses in the basket floating down the river; and Herod did the same thing, thus Mary and Joseph heading off to Egypt with the baby Jesus.

And what I remember about the Abbey visit is Beryl saying that you will be appalled at the dust, and we turned around to find you appalled at the dust.

I'm sorry I don't have idea for the apples, Beryl, but chutney does sound like a great idea.

I'm always appalled at dust, Robyn. Every time the sun shines in my windows on my freshly dusted surfaces and I find another speck I go batshit crazy.
Thank you for sorting the baby-slaughter thing out. You never know when a Bible College girl will come in handy.
Er … perhaps that came out more creepy than I intended. Hee hee.

I was thinking Pharoah ordering the killing of the first born too.
Either that or they found out baby tastes like chicken.
Apple crumble for me mum. Ta.

Yum! Baby! The other, other white meat.

That would be an okay business if you could charge by the hour. Think of a plumber. "Hmmm it would take about 750 hours to clean that frieze." You could work very slowly and very precisely.

Speedway said...

I keep clothes off the floor to make it easier to vacuum. I vacuum because it makes it easier to find the cat. If I didn't, I couldn't tell her from the dust bunnies.

Men ... Not only to they equate babies to chicken, they expect you to iron their shorts, too. Are you sure you didn't play in a band call AC/OCD?

Maybe the Candelabra Custodians should also offer intensive dusting services. Glad it's not my job -- I have a hard enough time keeping up with the dust and cat hair in our little place.

I think I'm right in saying that these wooden reliefs were carved by Jean Ravy around 1300-1350 and that the panels you are asking about depict the Massacre, or Slaughter, of the Innocents (c.f. Matthew 2:16-18).

And proud of it, Robyn.

Neetzy, you are a true capitalist. Shame on you! Hee hee.

Speedway, outside of American politics during an election year there are very few things on this planet more disgusting than wrinkly undies. Happiness is a fresh pair of nicely ironed boxers in the morning. Nobody likes a ride-up.
Have you been rummaging in my archives? I seem to remember the great underwear ironing debate a few years back. I was amazed (and nauseated) by the amount of people who wear wrinkly underwear. Ew!

As for the OCD, yes I am a towel-straightener. You really wouldn't like to see my cutlery drawer. Not a tine out of place.

Dust and cat hair, Ms.M. A classic combination. I have no cat yet my house is filled with cat hair. My own fault really; I allow the neighbourhood cats the run of the place. Next door's three moggies virtually live round here and at least half a dozen more regularly pop in to say hi. I find it a cheap method of obtaining the benefits of having cats around without the food and vet's bills.

Lucio, when you're hot, you're hot.

Well, the forks go where the forks go, right side up and according to size, etc., in my tablewear drawer. I iron as little as possible, like never, but I carefully fold and/or hang up everything (Everything!)as it comes from the dryer in order to avoid the loathsome ironing. So, while my books and notes are stacked hither and yon, my drawers and closets are surprisingly aligned.

Later I will send you an aligned pic of the bus lights. OCD and street dust addressed in one image. A visual oxymoron?

dive said...

Hee hee, Speedway. Those lights drove me crazy.

neetzy said...

Speedway I think you are a woman I can relate to and Dive, what is it about men and their undies? My husband will not let me fold his because he does not like the way I do it.

neetzy said...

Oh and I will not be insulted that you called me a capitalist. I do consider myself an "opportunist". I am actually one of those scum sucking teachers that certain politicians in this country call "welfare queens". To make matters worse, I teach art.

dive said...

Neetzy, when you have to spend the day with your balls cupped in something you get pretty fussy about that something.

Hee hee! Apologies for the crapitalist insult. You know my tongue was rammed firmly in my cheek.
