Yeah, yeah; I know some of you like snow but if you have to commute seven hours a day it is truly sucky.
Those annoying bloody Scandinavians have dumped most of Norway's snow on top of us today. I can hear the smug cackling of trolls in the nor-easterly gale that's blattering snow against my house.
Hey ho. At least it means a "work from home" day. I didn't bother to set the alarms this morning and laid in until almost six. Yay!
I got four hours of good solid work done before I just got told that the office in London is officially closed for the day so at least I'm nicely ahead for tomorrow.
But it still sucks.
Poo on the snow gods' heads.

Surely that's the point, Dive, you DON'T commute in this! I hear it's heavy in London but we only have a dusting :( my parents tell me that you don't have much either - maybe you are further from them than I thought?
I heard London was getting "buried" in 6 whole inches of snow and things were at a standstill. I snorted coffee out my nose. Last storm was 16+" here and I still made it to work.
I'm about a forty minute drive east from your parents' house, Lynn; much nearer the coast and it's pretty heavy here still.

Ah, Dive's "working from home" post. I was expecting that, and you didn't let me down.
All of the buses and trains around London have been cancelled and all the schools have been closed. Is it just me, or did things tend to run more or less normally a few years ago when we had a bit of snow (... or "extreme weather" as they keep laughably referring to it).
By the way, I'm not having a go at you because you have a long commute. We live pretty close to London and my other half got up early as usual only to find that all the bloody trains were cancelled ... moan, moan, whinge.

I was driving my kids to school this morning and the news dude said "Busses are not running in London this morning." So I figured the trains might be struggling as well. :)
The city came and snipped our power wires Friday afternoon while I was in the middle of baking cookies! They said we had to put the electricity box back on our house before we could have it back (picky picky). We quickly got it fixed and then had to wait all weekend to have power again. It wasn't horribly cold so we weren't in a desperate state just wanting to stay up past 6:30pm-bah!
Think you summed up Britain and its weather pretty well there Dive! Pathetic isn't it. We've got a bit more snow now and son has been sent home from college. Pah!
Hi, Shan! Our weather is so insignificant compared to yours (and especially to Prudence, stuck up in the New Hampshire mountains) that I feel a little ashamed moaning about it.
But then I remember I am supposed to be Dive and moaning is what Dive does. Hey ho.

Lynn: It truly is pathetic. Jerry next door just got home having driven from Lincoln and he says the Fens and most of West Norfolk have had almost no snow (which explains your parents only having had a dusting) but closer to home it is nasty. And it's due to get worse this evening and overnight before the thaw sets in so I may well be sitting here tomorrow, too.
I really do wish all our snow would go and plop down on Tewkesbury because I know you would love it and be able to go out and take lovely photos and make snowmen; but unfortunately it has fallen where it is not appreciated.

I'm hearing about the London snow on my NPR station here in sunny San Francisco area. Weird weather everywhere; no rain where it's supposed to rain (like here!), snow where it's not supposed to etc. Sure sounds like a work at home day for you, interspersed with reading by the fire with a cuppa tea.

Just heard that 40% of Britain's workforce has taken the day off today resulting in £1B loss. ALL of Surrey's schools are closed and many others. London congestion charge has been suspended by the Mayor on the up side, but he said it was a waste of money to buy lots of snow ploughs when they would be used so little.

Bummer about the snow. Sort of. Working from home sounds so much better than your usual commute.
We'll never get "snow days" in SF, so I'm pushing for "sun days" whereby if the temps are above 70 in SF in the winter (which is rare), we can all go to the beach instead of work.
Let's combine both those truly excellent suggestions and head on down to the beach with a bottle of wine.

When I was a kid it snowed so hard........etc.
I don't remember having the day off school for snow either. We walked to school in it, pissed around all day in it and then walked home in it.
We had fun outside when we were kids and even the geeky, skinny kids didn't get asthma. Go figure !

Dive you and I are becoming "Blood Brothers." We had a nice high of 46F(you do the conversion) on Saturday and today it is 6F below zero. That just sucks dirty canal water! I have had my fill of winter in the "Land of 10000 Lakes & Taxes." No fucking wonder Bob from Hibbing left this god foresaken tundra. Bob, Im right behind you, only Im some 45 years behind you.
ps Did I ever tell you about the times I used to take my snowblower up on the roof? I swear to God and I did and I did that many times. Please send some distilled spirits my way. Thanks.
