Let's Make A Racket - XXXIII

Shit …

Time to cringe from another year.
I don't have any songs called "It's my fiftieth birthday; someone please shoot me in the head"; the nearest I have is The Blind Willies doing '44 Blues.

So that's what you're getting.

While you endure that, here's a photo of the birthday cake mum made for me.

Yup … sushi and noodles fruit cake …
And you wonder why I'm like I am …

Thanks, mum.
The cake is delicious (as well you know).

Happy Birthday Dive! Have recently started reading your blog and love it. There's nothing wrong with being a cantankerous old git - it's something that so very few of us can pull off with style! Enjoy! QRx

Just listened to the music, great as always...

If you do not like your pic on my blog, it is because you have all the photo albums.. and that was the only one I could find....

Have a lovely day.....x

Oh that's so beautiful, that cake! What a clever Mum she is, truly. So glad she was the first to comment here today too. We Mums, we like that sort of thing.

Happy 50th Birthday, dear Dive. Don't worry about the number, just enjoy the day xx

Hi, Rose!
Welcome! Yes indeed, I am a proud curmudgeon; the culmination of fifty years of being studiedly grumpy and "difficult".
I've added your blog to my bookmarks and will start (as soon as I get a minute) trawling your archives to find out more. Please feel free to delve in mine, though it might be advisable to wear rubber gloves when you do so.
Hey, I love that warning you've got up about "This blog may contain adult material"; I'll have to see if I can get one of those myself.
I'm kinda curious about how you stumbled across my mess of a blog. Whenever someone new appears here I can usually find a common blog in our lists (mostly they come via Maria or the Daily Photo Post people), but I've drawn a blank with yours.
Anyhoo, thanks for the good wishes.

Mum: Those photos are icky. The cake is lovely, though.

Lynn: I laughed out loud when mum showed me the cake. It is delicious (as always).
I wish I could "enjoy the day" but I have lots of work to get done and then homework ready for Japanese class tonight.
At least I'm not stuck on a crappy train.

Many happy returns on this day of days ... or should it be "many curmudgeonly returns" in your case?

You have my permission to punch the first person who says "it's all downhill from here, ha ha!" to you.

dive said...

Thank you, Betty. You are - as ever - a beacon of sanity.
I'm going out to look for people to punch.

Dive
I rewrite:"Carpe Diem"
and Lovely Happy Birthday.

dive said...

Thank you, Anonymous.

I've been enjoying a coffee for elevenses and watching an old Buffy epsiode so today it's more "Carpe Jugulum".

Katherine said...

That is kind of a gross cake, Dive )no offense Mom, but the idea of veggies and fishy with cake just strikes me the wrong way). Happy Birthday anyway!

Hey....so your name is David, eh?

dive said...

Aww crap! I should have Photoshopped that out.
Too late now.
Fortunately the cake wasn't fish flavoured, although Mayuko brought me back some soy-sauce flavoured KitKat from Japan last week.
Yum!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DIVE!

The cake is great. I'll listen to the song a little later—just wanted to jump in here and say I hope you have a great day today.

dive said...

Thanks for jumping in, Robyn.
You're welcome to pop over for cake.

Oh Happy Day! Try not to think about the "number" just that there wasn't a chalk line around your body this morning! I bettcha feel better already huh!

Cheltenhamdailyphoto said...

See the cake's so fabulous that Katherine thought the sushi was real! You really are clever, Alifan.

dive said...

Prudence: They didn't have enough chalk to get all the way round my saggy-assed body.

Thanks for the good wishes, young lady.

Lynn: Mum's pretty good with her icing (flowers especially), though more than a little deranged when it comes to my own cake.

Katie said...

Hey Dive -- you made it! Sorry I slept through half your Birthday already, but I was dreaming of you! I'll really start to party in honor of your big five-oh after you go to sleep tonight. Thems the breaks being 9 hours behind you I guess. Great Racket tune, and I LOVE this cake that your mom made (great job Alifan!). Hope you saved me a slice. Ok, now get back to your Japanese homework, and toodle off to class. Hope you're having an ok Birthday. Hugs!!

dive said...

Hi, Katie!
Yup, I made it to fifty. That's more than Jesus did, though I have a way to go to catch up with Monty Burns.
You were dreaming of me? Sheesh! Try not eating pizza just before bed.
The cake is yummy, though thankfully not sushi flavoured.
Have a great day on the Bay! My webcams are showing a glorious sunrise over there right now.
Hugs right back!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DIVE!!!

I hope you have a good one.

Happy 39th! That cake looks really good. Send me a piece and I will have it for my breakfast. Enjoy your Japanese class.

dive said...

Thank you, Shazza! It's going okay so far (I've been working all day).

Cheers, Mark! You're welcome to come over for cake any time.
39?
If 40 is 39A, I've just hit my 39K birthday. Sheesh!

Happy Birthday Dive
A hard shell hides your kind heart
You brighten my day

...and a very cool cake. Glad to see it's not real sushi. Raw fish on fondant, kinda yucky IMHO.

dive said...

Hi, Lulu!
My saggy and flabby shell hides a pretty trashed old heart that's been patched up with duct tape and has bits hanging off it, it's been broken so much.
Hey ho.
I'm going to have to try sushi with fondant icing. It can't be as bad as the wasabi chocolate experiment I did a while back.
Thanks for brightening my day!

Been there, done that, I'm 51.
And its all downhill from there ha ha ha. And you can't punch me because I'm over the channel. I made sure the distance was safe before saying that!!!!

Happy birthday Mr. Grumpy.
I really like you, you know!

I know there's something I'm supposed to say...that I've been meaning to say...that I should say...

No, it's gone.

Wait!

No, it's definitely gone.

Perhaps after the nice nursie has fed me my pills I'll remember.

Wait!

No....Sorry.

Nurse Ratched?...Nuuuuurse Raaaaatched!

Happy birthday dude. As they say, "Sixty is the new thirty" think "Fifty is the new seventeen." Just imagine you are seventeen when you see the hot babes.
AMAZING CAKE! Your mom's a genius.

neetzy said...

Ooops. I forgot to say I loved the racket! I wanted to play some in my class of seventeen year olds, but my school computer blocked out the music clip link. I love ya Dive. I look forward to my daily dose.

Shan said...

You must have thought me a weirdy posting my b-day wishes on yesterdays post-OOPSie. My blog reader didn't read any of todays blogs until about 10:00pm for some reason so I thought everyone was having a day of silence on your behalf.

Oh well, you saw my comment anyway so it's ok. I completely and totally thought that sushi was real as well!! I figured she sacrificed her cake for your true love to rest upon! haha

I'll have to go tell your mom how impressive she is to us all. I'll listen tomorrow to the racket because it is too late for such things tonight. Glad you made it through the day unscathed!! :)

Happy Birthday to you

Happy Birthday dearest Dive
Happy Birthday to you.

Hip, Hip, Hooray!!

Hello dear friend - just had to pop down to the library and find a connection to wish you a wonderful day today. I just know that you are really enjoying yourself, somewhere, somehow.

That cake is amazing - your Mother never ceases to impress! I'd love to have a slice, yummy.

Our broadband access has been cut off by a frustratingly incompetent telco and we have yet to get it back but we're alive and well; doing lots of gardening instead of blogging. Hope to be back online next week (that's what they said the week before).
Much love to you and all the guys and gals in blogville.

I celebrated a good portion of your birthday in transit. I'm sorry I'm a bit late with my HAPPY! HAPPY!

But, HAPPY! HAPPY! nonetheless.

The cake looks amazing! Will your mom make one for me when I turn 50?

GG said...

Happy birthday, Boss!

Sorry I'm a day late, but we're a day ahead in Australia, although I don't think that actually proves anything.

Hope you had a wonderful time eating cake and drinking whiskey. Or sake.

It's reassuring to know that someone else is just kicking about, waiting to die. We should start a movement of sorts.

GGxx

Happy Day After Birthday Dive x

Cali: Thank you. Sheesh! Mum's going to be unbearable with all the nice things you guys are saying about her.

Katherine: It is yummy, though I would have been happy with real sushi, too.

Mum: I'm really going to have to try raw fish in icing now.

Hey, Savannah! SO glad you made it through the move intact.
You look nine years YOUNGER than me!
xoxoxox

Nathalie: No WAY are you 51!
Did you take that photo fifteen years ago?
Yikes! I feel older than ever now.

Cheers, Kate!
xoxoxox

Lucio: Pass me some of those pills, would you?

Neetzy: Fifty is the new bleah!
Talking of hot babes, Louisa last night (my little Lolita-style princess - you'll know from your daughters the kind of stuff she wears) spent most of the lesson wrapped around me blowing sarcastic mock sympathy kisses into my ear and cooing at her "poor little old man".
There's no word in English for "That is SO not helping, but please, please don't stop".
God, I hate being fifty.
Hey ho.

Shan: Of COURSE I think you're a weirdy; that's why I like you so much … OW!
You guys are making mum so big-headed.

Woohoo!
Mme, I am so glad to hear from you. We had been worried when you both went missing. I was hoping it was just internet crap and thank goodness it was.
Thank you for your birthday wishes. I do hope the interweb people get you back online soon. We all miss you!
xx

T: Mum will make cakes for anyone. She's a mercernary baker.

Hey, GG! I find drinking whisky is as good a way as any of filling in (or blanking out) the time while I wait for death.
Get over here and help me drink it.

Lynn: Thank you!

Dive,

Those youngsters just don't appreciate our refined senses of taste and humor. Imagine a world of us with our 50ish brains and 17-25 year old bods. Would we be hot or what? I laugh to think of my chubby body in a gothic lolita outfit! Dive, we blog women are all hot for your mind! Ha!

Volmon said...

The pills are in the mail...I think.

|Queer Rose said...

Hi Dive - Thanks for the invite, will be donning my rubber gloves as soon as I can. Can't work out how I came by you either, but you know how it is - click, click, click.. Glad that you survived your birthday! QRx
