"Never play pub gigs as a favour to old friends."
So where was I last night?
Yup; you guessed it …

I'll never learn.
What a pain in the butt pub gigs are.
The van picked me up at 5:30 in the afternoon and I didn't get home until 3:00AM,
Now I have a head full of stampeding cattle and my mouth tastes like the bottom of a zookeeper's boots.
I'm too old for this crap. My aches have aches.
This stuff is fucking heavy and has to be lugged up and down several flights of stairs.

For some reason Jann and SJ dressed as dominatrices. SJ had dyed her hair purple and got a bit carried away, and so arrived at the gig with purple ears and purple hands and finished the night with purple everything.

There was dog-vomiting.
There was binge drinking and girly-vomiting (this is North Norfolk).
There was fucking good fun and some great - if occasionally gloriously shambolic - music, but I can have both those things in the comfort of my own home.
And even worse, some twat video'd the debacle so there may be embarrassing YouTube links to follow.
Note to self: Follow your own good advice. It is there for a reason.ONLY play studio sessions or big gigs where it is worth your while.
NEVER play pub gigs as a favour to old friends.
This has been a public service announcement.

Duly noted, Dive, though there was little risk from my end. Had a musician boyfriend but i didn't get involved with the lugging around although i watched and it looked quite a lot of work for a couple of hours' fun. Not for me really, though i do sing and i'd quite like to queenly walk up to the mic do my piece, thank politely and walk demurely back to my table. A bit lazed i'm afraid but true. Glad you enjoyed it, roll on the Tube. Can't wait.
So not only do we have to get you up here for coffee, Lynn; we have to persuade you into my studio, too.
Start practicing. you're not getting away with this one. Hee hee.
I was hoping Old Dive had died his hair purple as well. Next time you don't do a favor for an old friend, let us see you in purple, or pink. Pink would be nice.
Ha!
Thank you, Robyn. I have little enough hair left anyway, so it looks pink where my head shows through it.
Dive, I'll go for the purple look, mate. It's a bit more dignified and helps you feel more worse the next day.
If Mick Jagger can keep it up, then so can you.
'Nil carborundum bastardum', as we say down under.
Good to see the chaps have a funeral wagon too. You can pack 'em in no worries !
Mmm, pub gigs. Have you ever wanted to video the crowd? Show people what they look like from the band's perspective?
If there are YouTube links, seriously Dive, I'd love to see you play.
Cheers,
Vic
Monsieur B: I would prefer Imperial Purple to girly pink.
Vic: if there's any usable video (considering that the video camera was being operated by an increasingly staggeringly drunk woman who'd never seen one before) we will post it for you.
Eek!
I am always astonished at how much shit Bing lugs with her to gigs. Especially when she plays percussion. She once packed up her marimba AND her vibes AND her drum set. Luckily she drives a cargo van.
I think you look quite Van Halen up there and I am dying to see the Tube.
Sounds exhausting.
At least there was puking.

Lynn: You know you want to. Hee hee.
Maria: That's why I prefer studio sessions. I just bring a selection of guitars and my 25th anniversary Mesa amp (the sweetest amp ever built) and sit around drinking coffee and chatting most of the day.
Oswegan: I'm still knackered.
Thankfully (other than the dog) the vom-fest was confined to the girly cloakroom and the street outside. Call me old fashioned, but puking is just not Punk any more.
Good to see the heartbreaker again. (I mean the amp, not Old Dive.)
Ah, the "Backbreaker", Pea.
It sounds as sweet as ever.
Come on, you know you enjoyed it!

I love the playing, Joy, but I really hate pub gigs. Hours of heavy lifting and setting up and soundchecks and the same in reverse at the end of the night. Getting home at three in the morning and trying to unload all the stuff from the van without waking the neighbours, in the freezing cold.
All for what?
Check out how happy I am in the studio the week before.
Sure, I loved the old days when I could play in front of twenty-five thousand people, but a pub gig in Cromer is about as close to the pits as it is possible to get.
Ick!
I tell a lie.
Playing with Freddie and the Dreamers in a holiday camp was marginally closer to hell than that.
Roll on old age when those memories will be lost for ever.
LOL. Puking in public??? That is SO disgusting!!!
And I wouldn't be able to carry all that shit (can't even carry my scrapbooking supplies around). How do you do it??
Roadies, Katherine. The most wonderful people on earth. Just feed them beer and they'll carry all the crap for you.
