In another month it will be dark at half-three up here in the frozen north. I long to hibernate through these most depressing three months of the year. But at least I get some eye candy when I walk out of the office after work. Yesterday afternoon this is what greeted me from the car park. The spire of the Cathedral all lit up gold behind the stair turret of Pull's Ferry makes it look vaguely Disney.

That is really beautiful, we are lucky to live in this part of the world, and glad that you and Phil notice these things like your Dad did.
Vaguely Disney? This is straight from a fairytale. Really pretty.
Shh … Don't tell people it's lovely round here or they'll only come and spoil it.
Thanks, Robyn. I just walked out of the office yesterday afternoon and the river was calm and the reflection yelled out at me "Hey, you! Take a damned photo of me."
How could I refuse?
It always gets late early this time of year.
Well, I left a comment earlier but it didn't post.
It's a really nice photo, Dive, and it must be really nice to look on that scene as you work. Just think, in about 5 weeks, we'll have the Winter Solstice and the days will again begin to lengthen.
That's so pretty, any second I expect to see Cinderella's pumpkin coach to pull up to the shore.
Phil, it's because it's late in the year that it gets late early; early next year it will get early later.
Yay Saturnalia! I do love a good Winter Solstice, Speedway. Roll on Spring.
Petrea, Disney has laid a terrific burden of expectation on romantic old buildings. Alas, no pumpkin coaches; just dog walkers and tourists.
Just as I get in to the office in the mornings there's an old man regularly walking a big old grey mongrel and he sits on the bench while the dog walks down the slope, takes a drink and goes for a swim. Even in this weather.
That is very beautiful. Maybe someday before "accelerated decrepitude" sets in I will make it over to see you and the beauty that surrounds you.
Name the movie that quote was in? LOL
Darn it, you've got me beaten there, Pru. Mind you, I'm only any good if it's in black and white.
That is a lovely photo -- dreamlike. I don't like the short days as well, either. In another month, it'll be dark here before 5; but dark at half-past 3? You'll have to stock up on Vitamin D3 (and perhaps some good Scotch).
Never mind the vitamins, Ms.M. but the Scotch is a must.
The Gulf Stream warms our silly little island and fools us into thinking we're further south than we really are, but we're on the same latitude as the little baylet hanging off the bottom of Hudson's Bay so winters are pretty dark. Conversely summers are irritatingly light. It doesn't get dark properly at all here in mid-summer, which is a bummer for an astronomy geek like myself.
Vitamin D3 for the winter and these stunningly beautiful vistas should have you jumping for inner joy (don't ask me what outer joy is?????). xxx
Outer Joy is meeting me for coffee at the weekend, Mme.
I'm too old and crotchety to jump for joy these days but I can make an entertaining shuffle in its direction.
xxx
