Look Up. Pt.8

Right.
Time for one of the silliest pieces of construction I have ever found.

This is the poetically monickered "CIGS and PAPERS" on the corner of Norwich mrketplace.
Not in itself that silly, being merely a Georgian building given a kitsch makeover by the notoriously tacky Victorians.
Today's marvel is the bizarre architectural excresence perched on top of it.
What we have here is an attempt to make some kind of Greek temple out of some reclaimed Georgian windows and pediments and what can only be described as a bunch of old bits of corrugated iron.
I love it!
The sheer audacity of marrying classical proportions with old shed building materials atop a Georgian building which is clearly visible from the windows of the City Planning Authorities just across the market takes my breath away.
If only more people had this sense of style and fun and total lack of respect … the world might not be a better place, but it would be sillier.

Isn't it unusual. Has some kind of New England influence about it too, doesn't it? I'm glad you've pointed it out, i'll have a gawp next time i'm there! Party's still going well but you're still in the kitchen Dive. Come out and have a dance! Play us something too.

Hee hee. You know me, Lynn. If I'm not on stage I'll be in the kitchen. I'm crap at parties.

And it's pink. Don't forget the pink.

Lynn, it is so not New England. You take that back.

Very funny dive. You might think this was some kind of practical joke wouldn't you? but then again silly is good too. Silly architecture is even better yet.

I like the shed analogy, Dive.

I think Gayman might call that another macho moment, Groover, sheds being the ultimate symbol of "bloke" (hee hee).

Rich: Silly architecture is the best. That's why I'm an architect: to make the world a sillier place.

And Sassy: It's been pink all my life. Nice of you to notice though …

Eek Sassy i've offended! lol so sorry i meant the weatherboard effect really not the quirky badly-thought-through design!

I do take it back unequivocally and feel thoroughly spanked (see my yesterday's post; i'm stinging already).

Well, here's to a sillier world. Couldn't we all use more silly. I love the idea of using old shed materials!

In the second window down it looks like a weirdy ghosty creature is looking down surveying the people of Norwich.
Also i notice next door the Cheltenham & Gloucester!

I don't know, Rich and I'm not going in there to find out.

And yes, Lynn; I saw who was next door and thought of you.

My whole family, all seven of us, lived in a house the size of that thing perched on the top of this goofy structure.

And I wonder why I'm claustrophobic.

How's the 'situation' going, Dive? Do we get any news yet?

An excellent giggle, Lynn.
Sorry I've not been about this weekend; loads of housework, the remains of the spring cleaning and rioting in the gardens have all kept me fully occupied … and tomorrow I'll be decorating at Mum's …
It'll be nice to get back to the office to have a sit down and a breather …
