But I'll press on with it anyway.
This time I'm in The City. No lovely lakes and rolling parkland here, like in my beloved Westminster; just nasty hard surfaces everywhere.
Yet quaintness and oddity can still be found.
Witness this strange little round room on the roof of the Bank of England. It's right round the back, where you would not normally look for strange little round rooms on the roof; especially not a strange little round room with an extravgantly tacky gold crown and corinthian capital stuck on top of it. Why is it there? What is it for? Is it where the Queen goes to sit and count her money? Buggered if I know …
Down at the other end of Threadneedle Street (originally named "Gropecunte Lane" - true) sits the Gibson Hall, festooned with a cornucopia of odd statuary; including these two gentlemen, sitting on either side of an unfeasibly large egg and apparently symbolically masturbating onto the crowds below.
The right hand gentleman seems inordinately pleased with himself. That has to be one of the silliest grins I have seen on a statue.
And speaking of silly; just across the road from our onanistic duo, you can look up and see Richard Rogers' splendidly silly Lloyds' Insurance Building, paid for by the small print on your insurance form.Apologies for the fact that I took these on Monday evening and am not in London at all but working from home today. So it's another crappy filler post.
Some days I just can't be arsed to think of anything to say.
Hey ho.

Well you can, Dive, but you're not divulging. he he.
Good shots, the Lloyds building brings back some hurting £ memories of the eighties.
The small round room. Hmm. Intriguing. Lovely image of the Queen counting her money. Can't think; i'd love to know. Ring 'em up! lol.
Hee hee. I will divulge when things become divulgeable, Lynn.
Yup. Damn the eighties. When she finally falls screaming into Hell, will you join me in a dance on Thatcher's grave?
And that little round room intrigues me. It's in the part of the Bank where the museum is, so one rainy day I may well find out what it is for.
I'll let you know.
Well at least now I understand the why the word "*unt" is so prolific and acceptable across the pond. It goes way back huh. Here it is one of the worst things you could ever say to someone. I can't even type it!
P.S. good morning Dive and I am so happy for you that you are now able to work from home. YIPPEE for DIVE!
Yippee indeedy, Prudence.
And the word is extremely nasty over here, too. That and the "n" word are unsayable.
Isn't it interesting that black people can call each other that, as a form of greeting and they see no problem with it? I think because of the "connotations" of the original word itself, they would be less inclined to ever use it but it is commonplace, at least it is here.
The Small Round Room: how to punish a blonde: tell her to go stand in the corner! LOL
Hee hee hee, Prudence. I've not heard a blonde joke in ages! Excellent.
You crack me right up, you old devil.
They say renaming a ship brings ill-fate, so, a pox on all those street re-namers. May they all rot in the Devil's Arsehole.
Hey these are nice shots dive. Now you've got me bloody looking up everywhere I go.
Hey, I'll take the "filler post" given I got a chance to take a look at some places that I haven't seen in some time. I must agree with you on the statue, though--you'd think if they were to hire someone for the purposes of carving something like that on the outside of a fairly recognizeable public building, the guy would be talented enough NOT to come up with "that guy."
Hi, S.
Yeah, the statue is kinda dorky … let's hope it wasn't a self-portrait!
How's the job hunt going?
Monsieur B: Thank you for actually following the link. I think I'll start a campaign to have Threadneedle Street revert to its original name.
And Rich: Look out for those open manholes!
M. Dive,
Here we have 'personholes' and a 'personnned' spacecraft to Mars. What unadulterated crap !!
As far as renaming places; it should be outlawed. We must all live with our heritage. To deny that is crass. Perhaps we could all live on a Flat Earth.
But then one couldn't travel down under, (except spiderman).
Bon Poisson d'Avril to you all, especially at ADP.
Dive, I just received an advanced copy-pre-release of Bill Morrissey's new CD, Come Running... I am so in love with this guy. If you would like one too I can let you know how to contact his manager.
Thank you for the link, dive!
As long as I'm here, I might as well dive (no lame pun intended) head-first into the conversation.
I'm going to have to disagree with Ms. Prudence. Recommended reading: Eve Ensler's Vagina Monologue entitled "Reclaiming Cunt." When Glenn Close performed the Monologue, she had the whole audience chanting it with her. I, for one, can't think of a better evening out than one which involves chanting CUNT with Glenn Close.
I use the word sparingly but always say it boldly.
Hee hee, Terroni. That is certainly a beguiling image!
And Prudence: Yes please. I loved the collection and can't wait to hear the new one.
Sassy has my personal email address.
Dive, in keeping with the current "heading-straight-past-the-gutter-to-HELL-in-a-handbasket" theme of our little family of posters...
I think you need to grace us with some flesh in your next post!
Come on DB!
Don't let us DOOOOOOOOOWN!
;)xo
I may well join you for a token jig, Dive, though she did inspire incentive, which i wholeheartedly approve of. Some, like with Lloyds went awry, but at least people had some sort of hope. what've we got now?
