Bovine Quiz Time

So there we were, wandering along the riverbank between Westminster Abbey and Tate Britain and we took a little detour into the garden beside The Houses Of Parliament.

I wanted to photograph this:

This compact and bijou jailette is the room where anti-monarchist radicals and revolting peasants such as myself were locked up after Parliament had convicted them of treason.
They would wait in this little cell for the tide to turn so that they could be taken downriver to the Tower of London for a pleasant chat with the executioner (before the days of public hangings at Tyburn and Newgate, which were much more fun)!

So anyhoo … Here we were, innocently photographing a jail, when we were somewhat rudely interrupted by a brightly-garbed figure lurking in the shrubbery.

What the fuck is this supposed to be?
It's apparently a fake cow, dressed in the robes of a member of the House of Lords.
Er …
Has anybody any ideas?
I know we English are meant to be eccentric but this is all quite beyond me.

Oh, the eye, the eye. We're going right to the top on that thing, Dive.
I don't think you would have been an anti-royalist in those days Dive, you're much too fond of the heavy bit above your neck that allows you to enjoy life so much. But if you were, you would never have been caught. You're much too smart for that. I do love the "bijou jailette" such a cute, quaint phrase to match the building. As for the vache, who knows? I think the red cloak is a rather nice touch. Watch out for those horns though, they look like they mean business.:)

The Eye is great fun, Mme.
I would always be an anti-royalist. I was born in the wrong century; I'd dearly have loved to join Cromwell and slaughter the parasites. Hee hee.

I love the word "vache".
It always reminds me of John Cleese as the French knight in "Holy Grail" with his Franglais cry of "Fetchez le vache!" and its chortlesome aftermath.

"There's a children's cheese called La Vache qui rit" (The laughing cow).
John Cleese. I thought he was funny in "A Fish Called Wanda". I think that is one of my favourite movies.

We have the Laughing Cow cheese here, too. The picture on it is slightly scary.
Gosh, I've not seen "Wanda" for years. I shall have to track down the DVD.

Do you not have fake cows in England? For years we have had a traveling exhibit of fake cows, each colorfully painted according to theme. Chicago was littered with them during one of the last times I visited. Very fun.

We have the infamous fake cows of Milton Keynes and the "fake cows painted in the colours of the flags of all nations" thing, but this is a particularly odd one.
Parliament is a notoriously humourless place so I wonder if they even know it is there.

maybe Britain is going cow friendly like we are here in the states.

That cell is pretty scary looking, although I wouldn't mind hiding in there from some of the people I have to deal with on a daly basis.

You'll have to build yourself a little stone sanctuary in the corner of the office, Rich.

We have lots of fake cows in America, but not so royally garbed. Perhaps one escaped and is having himself a wonderful time in your fair city, kicking up his bovine heels and making merry.

Hee hee, Lulu. Excellent!

Maria: Yes, it's probably a lost American bovine tourist.

I came across an exhibition called MoovingArt in this shitty little town in Victoria - I'll post pictures later this week.
