This week’s sentence was taken from Edith Wharton’s ‘The Age of Innocence’.
It was:
‘“Tell me what you do all day,” he said, crossing his arms under his tilted-back head, and pushing his hat forward to screen the sun-dazzle.’
I've already written mine and if you thought this week's bromance was out of character you're in for a treat with the next one.

As it happens, I am currently scribbling something on Martin Scorsese's beguiling film version of The Age of Innocence. Despite having seen it almost too many times, I can't help but chuckle to myself whenever I hear the following words (spoken ever so sardonically by the worldly Joanne Woodward - who, amazingly, turns 80 this coming year):
'It was widely known in New York, but never acknowledged, that Americans want to get away from amusement even more quickly than they want to get to it.'
This may not be true of all Americans, or even the majority of them, but I think I'm on fairly safe ground when I say that it is certainly true of many of them - and, for that matter, many of the rest of us!
Vanda: I am never happier than when I have been responsible for a girl's embarrassments.

As for what I have in the bag; it's nothing special but it just took me a little by surprise while I wrote it.

Great quote! Though I've always been kind of attracted to amusement myself and tend to cling to it for its rarity value, but then I'm definitely not an American (even though I'm in training).

It's only Katherine's site that keeps commenters at bay. She gets a lot of hatemongers hassling her so she protects her blog. The others just have the annoying "type in the letters" thing.
I thoroughly enjoyed both stories on my first (rushed) reading this morning. As the others know I commute seven and a half hours a day (more today as the train broke down) but work from home on Wednesdays and Thursdays so that's when I go round and take my time reading other folks' blogs. I'll come back and give your stories the attention they deserve.
