Another double-header today. Generous to a fault, that's me. The quality might be crap but you get a lot of it!
First up, a quickie; just a fun throwaway track. It's Michael and Dive down at the Blues Club way back when. This time we are ruining Robert Johnson's wonderful "Preaching Blues" by boogying it up.
Have we no respect?
No, we have not.
For dessert today, I've dug up something that's purely for my own nostalgic pleasure, rather than anything worth listening to.
This is an out-take from a rehearsal tape of our old lounge-jazz sanity band and when I blew the dust off it and put it in the deck I just had to laugh out loud and cringe at the God-awful Syn-Drum that Dave was playing. Holy crap that dates it so terribly. Whoever thought those were a good idea should have been strung up.
Even more embarrassing, this is us all dragged up for an end of year bash at my parents' old pub, where we used to play for laughs (and beer) as "Angie And The Amateurs" on our nights off from proper gigs. It was great to just let our hair down and play for the fun of it (no doubt this will prompt a nostalgia-fest from mum and yes, mum, I DO have the photo of the trashed remains of Steve at the end of that particularly well-lubricated night).Angie on the left, then Steve, Old Dive (or rather Young Dive back then) and Dave B.
I was wearing a particularly sluttish sequinned evening gown with garter and sexy red wig. I think it was the beard and hairy legs that made me totally irresistible.
Apologies for the fact that this is a total shambles and that Angie's voice is barely audible, it was a rehearsal so nothing was miked up or mixed properly, just a cassette recorder plonked in the middle of the floor.
The song is Morrissey Mullen's "Stop And Look Around", a title which sounds like one of those crappy BBC kids' science and nature programmes from the sixties … and our version here is about as professional. Hey ho.
This is just the sound of Young Dive having a laugh with his friends. It was the first band Steve and I played in together and we stayed together through countless bands and recording sessions until the end, many decades later.

First, where did you get the red hair?
Sounds very 'electric'.
It belonged to the drummer, Joy (don't ask)!
Oh dear memories...... the pictures we took there......and the fun we hard, hard work but great days.....as long as you do not find that photo of me and Sam with me dressed as nearly as bad a slut as you looked... tee hee....
I think you've still got that one hoarded away somewhere. You'll have to post it on your own blog.
And yes, I've been wallowing in a nostalgia-fest myself, going through all the photos and listening to a hilarious tape of one of the gigs.
My God! Steve played EVERYTHING four times the speed it should have been, but we did have such fun.
Scampi and chips at midnight, do you remember? no wonder we are this weight...
Post that one on my blog, I do not think so... all my street cred would fly out of the window.....
The music was great.....as always....
Hell, yes! All of that playing (and beer swilling) sure worked up an appetite. There's nothing like a midnight feast with a sweaty band.
Those were the days … Leave all the band gear set up until the following morning and send Sam home in a wheelbarrow.
Sigh …
Enjoyable as always.. I went red for a bit and boy wasn't I sassy! Wondering if you'd mailed anything yet? I know pushy American.
Eek!
I HAVE managed to track down a CD mailing box at last, Prudence, crawling through the attic last weekend chased by "The Thing That Eats Spiders".
Now all I have to do is remember to mail it.
I really do appreciate your valiant effort in climbing into the abyss. I am just anxious! I need things to look forward to lately.
I have the CDs and the mailing box here on the table and I'll make sure and pop them in to the Post Office when I go in to Norwich in the morning.
What a dreadful procrastinator!
How fun! Young Dive was a pretty hot chick in his day, huh? Yeah, the synthesized thing is a bit dated, but it's still all very fun.
XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO
"A pretty hot chick"?
Hee hee hee hee hee hee, Robyn!
And kisses to you too, Prudence. Though I'll only deserve mine when the CDs are on their way.
I can't listen to the tracks on my Touch (cool toy, but it's obviously man enough to handle Thursday Racket), but at least I can see you in the sexy wig. I think we need a full-on view of you in a sequin dress though!
Katie: that wig sure was scratchy!
There does exist a photo of me posing in that gown but it is way too disturbing to post on the internet. I believe there are laws prohibiting such things.
Bahaha! I like the wig very much. I did my hair that color in the old college days. It was called torch crimson. You were quite a-flame with it so that fits-Bada bing!
That was some fast playin' wasn't it? Well, it's fun to hear smidgets from the different groups you played with. :) Yep, yep, I can see why you like to get caught up in those times. And, I'd love to see Alifan in her version of club tawdry. teehee
fun music and yeah, hella fast! soooo, if i send you a lucha libra mask are my chances of getting a cd any better? ;) xoxox
What fun! Be happy I'm living for Thursday's racket. The first song was awesome. Great keyboards and guitar. Second was pure fun! Now I know I can post some old doodles and silly artwork! Love the wig, I want to see a full body shot of the sequinned dress. I bet you were hot!
Shan: tempting as it is, I shall refrain from grabbing your photo off your blog and Photoshopping your hair that colour. Hee hee.
Savannah: Hee hee. I was a teenager when Los Bros Hernandez started off Love and Rockets comics and they kinda got me hooked on the Lucha Libra look.
One day I'll probably make all of the Rackets available to download, but not quite yet.
Neetsy: I sure was a babe in that dress. Hee hee.
Do post your doodles!
If you scroll down my sidebar to the links and hit "Art" you'll find some of my own, hidden amongst the Hoppers.
