Far above the moon,
Planet Earth is blue,
And there's nothing I can do …"
I make no excuses for another NASA post because it's fucking brilliant.
Before you do anything else, flick iTunes on and find Bowie's "Space Oddity".
Then sing along as "it's time to leave the capsule if you dare."
Good evening, ladies and gentlemenand welcome back to The Rick And Mike Show,
coming to you today from Space!
Yaaay!
More screengrabs from NASA TV showing genuine Grade 'A' heroes, Rick Lenahan and Mike Foreman working their socks off to get Dexter the robot up and running. This is what the sun looks like from space. Wowee!
"Weightless" means what it says on the box.Watch in awe as Mike carries tons of metal in one hand.
On the right of the picture is one of Dexter's enormous arms and on the left is the socket into which it will fit.
Superman, eat your heart out!
"Day Two of Rick and Mike's spacewalk" and are the two guys sitting by the pool, arguing? Are they fuck!
Rick and Mike carry on a great and funny banter as they work. They are astonishingly like Tom and Ray off NPR's "Car Talk" radio show.
They also grunt a lot when things get stuck and say "Pass the wrench" and "Good work, buddy" a lot.
And "Hey, Houston! can we use the pry-bar?" when things really get stuck and they have to hit bits of the robot to free them up.
This is the pallet that Dexter's bits are stored in.The guys' task is simple:
Assemble several tons of metal and make a working robot.
In space!
This was the pallet before they started work. And yes, Lynn … For several parts of their mission they are "freefloating",
dicking around in outer space with no tether!
Scary or what?
His body and two arms are ready for placing on the ISS.
Get a hold of your own copy of the NASA TV widget and tune in right now for the greatest show on (or off) Earth.
Unless you really want to watch crap like Celebrity Liposuction.

That's pretty cool Bro, I have the widget now and I did put Bowie on to read.
I now have Murray Perahia, Bach-Goldberg variations which is good music for watching spacemen.
Excellent.
Enjoy!
The guys will be up there all week putting Dexter together and testing it out.
This is all pretty cool. You talked me into it—I'll add NASA TV to my dashboard. ShakeASpeare can be be set aside for it.
It's certainly been an exciting couple of days up there, Robyn.
That song is one of my favourites anyway. I've seen Bowie live 4 times in the last 5 years, he's amazing.
Can i do this NASA thing, Dive, or is it just for the MacElite?
I knew they did the free floating thingy but i honestly am shocked they are untethered for ANY amount of time! Totally freaks me.
Wonderful shots here. Does the team know that Dive is doing his bit from his little corner of the UK?
Whooaa! Scout: Shakespeare set aside for it?? Whooa there a second, let's not get carried away, eh? LOL
This is turning into a serious addiction, Dive. Remember: planet Earth is blue, and there's nothing you can do.
I always knew you were a space man Dive. Planet earth is blue and there's nothing I can do. lalalala
He can't hear us. He's ...LOST ... IN .... SPAAAAAAACE.
I agree with every word Dive; awesome stuff. Can't watch NASA TV at work but I do have their 'picture of the day' on my iGoogle page. start the day with a'woah'. It's been too long since I've been to the Space Centre in Leicester.
well, sugar, i've been humming the joker/space cowboy since yesterday! ;-)
(you're right about this being the most real of reality tv shows!)
Lynn: You've seen Bowie live all those times and you didn't take me?
For shame!
I asume the NASA thing is available for Windoze, too, but I have no idea how.
Vic and Rich: Yup. It was still blue this morning when I looked and there is indeed fuck all I can do about it.
Pea: Wow! The Space Centre was amazing! Though I hope they've fixed the lift now; climbing all those stairs to the top of the rocket was a real pain!
Oh, yikes, Savannah! The Joker! Now that's gonna be stuck in my head all day.
Sorry Dive, i was in turn taken by an ex boyfriend. I'll meet you at the next one though maybe!
I don't know how you got up this morning Dive. I actually thought of you as i peeled myself off the sheets and groaned at the thought of you having been up all night.
I am looking more than slightly the worse for wear, Lynn.
The bags under my eyes are now matching Louis Vuitton suitcases and my hair looks like it has rats nesting in it.
Bleah …
They're sure "floating in the the most peculiar way", aren't they?
And the stars look very different today …
Why did they name him Dexter? I CARE about things like that.
It's some twisted acronym, the first word of which is "dextrous".
He has eleven foot long arms with seven universal joints in each, so he can do pretty much anything.
Expect a miniature version in sex shops soon!
