Hippie Picking.
Bollocks to politics and religion.
After the last couple of posts and comment-frenzies I need a rest.
Plus I ran into someone from my distant past today (hi, Lucy) and I need to sit for a while and feel old, so while I chill out on the sofa with a green tea here's a bonus music track for you.
This is from a pre-gig run-through with the Dave Thomas Band (from last Thursday's Racket).
The tune is John Martyn's "Ballad Of An Elder Woman".
As you can tell, this was the first song we played together and it's all a little tentative, but this style of extremely laid-back, fingerstyle guitar playing (I call it hippie-picking) is one that I particularly enjoy as it reminds me of the west coast self-indulgent noodlings of bands I enjoyed back in the late sixties.
So here's to all of my lovely blogpals of the female and no-longer-teenaged persuasion.
Beauty grows with age.
Take a few minutes rest and relax to "Ballad Of An Elder Woman" …

I actually feel kind of "elder" today. This song is the perfect antidote to today's frantic schedule. Thanks!
You do have a frantic weekend, don't you, young Robyn?
A mother's work is never done.
Tribal Elder - hmmm - it might work. In Oz, the indigenous tribal elders have all the power and they're matriarchal societies so, yes, it'll work.
I listened closely all the way through Dive and apart from it being an easy listening song, I can hardly believe that that was the first time you played together. I think it was great and it'll buzz around my tiny brain while I'm drifting off to sleep. It's that time of the early morning again. Zzzzzz ,,,,
I think i fit, here, Dive! Thanks.
Funnily enough we have a kind of similar theme today, blogpal.
I just posted it because my brain needed a rest and it's a laid-back song, Mme.
Yes, it was the first time we'd played together. The drummer was good to lock in with.
Sleep well.
Lynn: I did indeed think of your two lovely old ladies when I picked the song.
Enjoy your recovery.
Ah. It made me want to dance or at least sway a bit. Not on THESE knees yet, but maybe soon...
And of course, Bing heard it and came in, bouncing on her keds.
"That is a great drummer," she commented and did a little shuffle and then I made her get back to cleaning to the shower.
Yeah, I hold the whip around this homestead....
Again I can't make the song work (I blame my friend's computer) so I'll have to listen to it later, but I like your lovely old lady theme today (and Lynn you too)! Last night my friend's 85-year old mom joined us for pizza, beer and bluegrass to hear her son-in-law's band play. She even had on one of the band's t-shirts! Sounds a lot like your mom Dive. We're going back for another bluegrass show tonight (although I think mom's going to pass).
Maria: Bing's right as always. The drummer's name's Nigel Widdowson and I only played with him a few times but he has the knack of listening to the soloists and putting in little fills that complement the playing; a rare and attractive trait in a drummer.
Katie: Good to hear you're out watching a live band.
Your friend's mom sounds great.
And yes, my mum often comes to gigs and sometimes drags a mad aunt along to subject her hearing aid to high-volume noise. Hee hee.
very cool song, sugar! i'm in total agreement with the rest, perfect song for today! today was a "remembering" sort of day for us all, it seems. a farewell luncheon with a young woman who's pregnant with her first child and leaving to join her husband up in vermont. for a moment, i wished i could do it all over again. *sigh*
but, then i remembered, i had some shoe shopping to do! because, now it's all about me! ;-)

have you ever thought of electing one piece of music to play and then recording only your part? And having all of the other blog musicians do their parts as well and combining it all into a blog jam?
You sure got that right, Savannah.
Nostalgia's fine, but you've been there and done that and right now it's time to treat yourself.
Indulge and enjoy.
You deserve it.
Hi, Kate.
Yes, I think about that a lot.
I especially think about how cool it would be for The Groover to lay down rhythm tracks on "Garageband" and for folk like Phil and Bing and myself to add our own stuff.
How does Vic feel (other than silky soft and delicious)?
She's at band practice this afternoon but I have spoken to her about this before and i think she'd be in on it.
As to how she feels, yes your right she is silky and delicious but she has bony little elbows that dig into you're back while your sleeping.
God I miss bony elbows.
And cold feet.
Sigh …
Hi Dive! I've missed your blog. Sorry I haven't been around much lately.
I love the sound indeed. Very good for chillin'.
How have you been and everyone else? Don't forget - 31 May, Assembly House, 630pm!
Hi, Joy!
How was Manila? Much warmer and sunnier than here, no doubt.
Nice to see you back again.
Bony elbows - the problem is that the human body is not designed for spooning. One arm is always going to end up in the wrong place or with a permanent case of pins and needles.
I was thinking the same thing, Dive. I've had a few grooves that have kicked around for a while and it would be fun to throw them out there and see what happens. The problem is that I am a Windoze pleb - isn't Garageband one of those little Mac exclusivities?
Doh!
When are people going to start buying proper computers?
We'll figure something out. If nothing else you can stick some stuff down on CD and mail it to Phil and we'll import it into GarageBand and add stuff.
Crumbs, Dive there ain't no spiders nor flamin' dust on that great number.
Pretty damn nice if y'ask me.
I guess you would have a player for an 8-track, so in a zillion years when it's all digitised, - digitized for those in the colonies, we can enjoy one of 'em ?
GRRReat stuff, mate.
Monsieur: As Mme. asked so nicely when I first started doing this, you (together with Prudence) will be burdened with CDs of all the crap I've posted and probably some more, too.
As Mme. likes blues, I'll put a selection on there.
I certainly feel like an elder woman. My new housemate has a penchant for cleaning , yard work and busy work. I can barely walk today. Thanks for the extra happiness and I am anxiously awaiting my CD.
Sheesh! I'm glad it rained here over the holiday weekend. My garden is a riot of unruly plants but it can just stay that way a little longer.
When the Benauts come over here in August I'll do the CDs, Prudence.
I'll email you then for a mailing address.
