Mme et M Benaut à Londres. Pt.3

For anyone tuning in to listen to the regular Thursday Racket, I'll be posting that later today, but first …
Woohoo! We're back in London with Mme and MB.

Well here we are at lunchtime, having left the British Museum and caught a taxi (via an internet café where Mme checked out some of your posts, especially Lynn's) to one of my favourite lunchtime haunts, Piccadilly Circus.

Yes, Phil; I know "Eros" isn't really Eros but is in fact a statue of the spirit of something or other, but it's still a romantic place for a photo of a romantic couple, so duh!

Anyhoo, we promenaded pleasantly along Piccadilly, grabbing a whole bunch of sushi from Yoshino to eat in Green Park. And here we are doing just that.

On our way, we took a look at the Royal Academy and Burlington Arcade and a few other places (Mme got sidetracked by the Cashmere Shop).
Then we stopped in at Fortnums to buy some tea and generally lark about. MB took loads of photos in there which I hope will see the light of day when they get home.

Another great shot which is on MB's camera but sadly not mine is of Mme posing with a very happy-looking doorman at the Ritz Club. We Brits do appreciate an antipodean cuddle. Hee hee.

And of course, as any fule kno, beside the Ritz is Green Park - where we stopped to devour our sushi, and where you'll find me doing just that at least one day every week - and between Green Park and St.James's Park lies The Parasite House.

Of course I wasn't really looking at the bottom of the girl behind Mme, who was herself photographing a handsome fellow decked out with breathtaking sartorial elegance. I can just hear the girl: "Okay, don't smile at the camera; make a face like you've just crapped yourself … Lovely!"
Sorry about that. One of the joys of digital cameras is that tiny things in the background that went unnoticed at the time can be enlarged and giggled at.

We visited the day after the Olympics hand-over party and the whole place was like a builders' yard, with workmen demolishing corporate hospitality suites and lugging stage gear into lorries.
In this photo you may just notice MB appears to have grown an extra head.

Just as tourists cannot come to London without photographing The Parasite House, an English Marxist and a proud South Australian cannot help but show our respects to the so-called "Royal" Family with a splendid Bottom Salute!

I love this photo so much I make no excuses for posting it again.
When Mme wasn't off chasing squirrels around the park (another plus for Australia - it is devoid of the annoying tree rats) and spotting exotic trees, we came to one of the most romantic spots in London, the bridge over St.James's Park lake.
This is the classic shot with The Parasite House in the background.

And this is the view the other way, with Horseguards' Parade above Mme's head, Downing Street behind the trees in the middle and the London Eye in the distance.
And yes, dear reader, that is just where we'll be heading in tomorrow's post.

But along our way (after yet more squirrel chasing, during which Mme was delighted to watch one of the little blighters burying a peanut for the winter about two feet in front of her) we just happened to pass Westminster Abbey.
Gosh, London is just full to the brim with romantic photo locations.
And bloody squirrels …

Where those people are standing just in front of the main door is where I met our lovely Robyn when she came to visit last year.
I do love the fact that all I have to do is stay still and blogpals come from all over the world to visit me. It sure saves on air fares!

Yay! The Clock Tower of the Palace of Westminster … aka Big Ben (yes, fellow pedants, I KNOW Big Ben is just the name of the bell).
It went "BONGGGGGGGGGGGG!" four times while we were having coffee shortly after this.
Well, Mme and MB had coffee; I - being the pedantic Englishman - had iced tea, four o'clock being High Tea time.

Hokay … so we were supposed to be doing impersonations of Winnie, but …

… I think I'll leave the caption for this one to your own delightfully twisted imaginations.

Big Ben is actually quite big. This one's for la belle Marie who asked us to blow a kiss to BB for her.

Wet stuff! It's Old Father Thames himself, flowing under Westminster Bridge, while we walked over it to reach …
… well, a coffee shop for one thing.
But the other thing will get posted tomorrow, in the final installment of Mme et M Benaut à Londres.
Miss it and I'll come round and slap you.

I just finished leaving a comment on Part 2 and now Part 3 has appeared and I'm exhausted already! Any tips or secrets you can share Dive? Put 'em on a leash? Vitamins for the tour guides? Lots of beer? I sure hope Paris is prepared for this active couple! Great commentary on your part, as usual!

Hee hee, Michael.
Mme and MB are irrepressible; put 'em on a leash and you'll be dragged around the city.
I think beer and wine and great French food may well keep them sedentary for a bit.
Good luck!

My goodness, Dive, what a fantastic post. I'm exhausted. Thanks for the tour! I haven't been to London in nine years, what is the MATTER WITH ME? I'll meet you in front of Westminster Abbey ASAP.

And bring your walking shoes.

OH! You guys are so cute and fun I just want to pinch you right now! But in a grandma way, so don't get any ideas! What great shots Dive. You really captured the animation in this group. And what a frenzy this new set of visiting is causing. heeheehee!
Are you feeling like you simply can't avoid stardom right now (not to mention taking on the full time tour guide idea) as much as you say you try? Bahha
You go with your dynamic self!! Speaking of...I can see that everyone has loosened up for this leg of the site seeing. hehheh :D
Boy, if you're up and blogging already, that means I'd better be shoving off to bed. It's tomorrow now? Oops. ( Jamey's been out of town this week so I'm doing lots more blog traveling myself.) Happy Thursday to you!

I so agree with Petrea that this is a fantastic post! So many wonderful photos and I was cracking up just imagining all of you chasing squirrels and making rude gestures in front of statues, and oh my that woman's butt shot is just too funny. Gee Dive, why is Mme not quite in focus but that woman's butt sure is?! I was last in London in 1985, which is another lifetime ago. Petrea I'll meet you over there!

"In a grandma way!" Hee hee hee, Shan! I just sprayed coffee over my monitor at that one.

I do love playing tour guide, Shan. It's just a pity that most people want to come to London rather than chill out in beautiful Norfolk.
And yes, it is indeed tomorrow already, so off to bed with you, young lady!

And you, too, Katie! My dashboard tells me that it's bedtime in San Francisco.
I think I had the camera set on "butt focus" for that shot.
Gosh, I love meeting bloggers. I am so glad I work somewhere people want to visit.

Dive since I don't want to be a pity, maybe I'll buck the trend and visit you in beautiful Norfolk! I hear the train that runs between London and Norfolk is modern, fast, and has free booze! Oops, you're right, it is bedtime in San Francisco. I'll hit the hay as soon as the funny Brit John Oliver gets done with his piece on The Daily Show. He just said "inane douchbaggerie" in that cute British accent of his.

dive said...

Hee hee hee and hee again, Katie!
The train to Norfolk is indeed run by inane douchebags.
Nighty-night.
I'll email you in time for breakfast.

OMG! How wonderfully embarrassing Dive dear and complete and here we were thinking you were snapping the scenery too! (I'm getting the hang of this french keyboard this morning but hqve to look at the keyboard instead of the text.
Blogpals near and far, I can assure you all that there is no better tour guide than our darling Dive. Near the end of our journey when I could barely stand, I asked him how far we had walked. Five miles was the answer and I nearly choked! I haven't walked that far for about five years!
Dive is the generous, polite, engaging and urbane gentleman that those of us who are dedicated fans know hi, to be. Bless you dearest friend for such an amazing tour of your beautiful capitol. It is something we shall treasure all of our lives.
We are very much in the grip of my belle maraine (Godmother) but shall be on our way into the centre ville de Paris demain (tomorrow) Alors, à demain ...

Joy, I felt just like we were a bunch of mischievous schoolkids.
And yes, the unagi nigiri were delicious!

Woohoo! Mme it is so good to hear you are enjoying beautiful Paree in the loving care of your belle maraine!
I checked our route, by the way and not counting the British Museum and all the meandering we did around the Palace you walked more than seven miles, for which I can only apologise, but we did see some lovely sights - including those pesky squirrels, hee hee.

You are too kind as always.
Hugs and kisses to you and MB

OH! I'm so jealous!

And this lovely couple really must find a reason to visit boring old Ohio. I can stand here for years and years, and no one drops by.

dive said...

I owe you a return visit, Robyn. Perhaps we'll all come and invade you at once.
Put the kettle on.
