Crapola.
Today is a Semen Hour day.
While I'm incarcerated in the boardroom, silently screaming as my brain is sucked out through my ears and my soul seared from my body by the infernal dæmons of tedium, I'll set you a compact and bijou taskette.
Some time over the next couple of weeks I'd like you to post recipes for your very favourite dishes your mothers used to make for you when you were little.
Photos would be good.
And memories.
Next time I'm over at mum's we'll be making tiddy oggy and I'll post the results.
Now, however, I must dose myself up with enough espressos to keep shaking myself awake for the rest of the day and head down into the infernal depths of Semen Hour.

OMG i was scared to click the Semen link. Would i find there a pic of Dive in the bathroom? I braced myself, peeking through my fingers. Phew thankfully not.
My mother was never a baking sort of cook. My Dad used to make cakes whilst she is known for delicious roast dinners. Heart attack stuff made with lard, an umentionable i will not have in my house. They are delicious those roasts though...
Um. I don't remember any Mum-cooked stuff really Dive. I used to bake cakes myself and a favourite childhood concoction of mine was chocolate Swiss roll, with milk poured over and mashed into a delightful goo. Will that do?
Lynn! As if I would EVER post anything offensive!
Hee hee hee.
I think you ought to pester your mum for her delicious roast dinner tips, Lynn. My tum is rumbling at the thought!
Ah...my sainted Irish mother was not the best cook but there were a few that she could do well. I take after her...
I will think on it and get back to you.
And stay sane...one of the things I dread most about returning to the workaday world are the meetings, meetings, meetings. What a waste of a day.
ANOTHER SEMEN HOUR? So soon after the last? Well, it seems excessive for you to have to endure more than one of those per year doesn't it?
Oh, this Monday is not looking good on a global level. I'll be up at both kids schools all day filing at one, and helping tiny kids find the bathroom at the other. It's not really seminar level stuff but the first day of school always traumatizes me in a similar way. You wouldn't know it by the scary grin plastered across my face though. :~}
I'll try to think of something my Grandma makes. She would have the most interesting recipe selection.
Cheers, Maria. Good, simple Irish cooking is wonderful. I look forward to trying it out.
Shan: Yup. We suffer from an overdose of meetings and semen hours here.
Yikes! Is it already first day of school over there? You poor thing! Ours don't go back until the first week in September.
I can't wait to hear your grandma's recipes.
Keep up the scary grin!
Maybe i'll get you an invitation next time i'm up there, Dive.
I too cook a mean roast. Er...minus the lard though. Yuck. Now and again it's delicious and Mum's are well known.
ok, that works, sugar! a give and take exchange of sorts...i think next time the MITM cooks, i'll try and document his work! i'm too spoiled right now to cook anything!!! xoxox
just looked at the clock...almost after 3pm there, right? i do hope you're on your way home, darlin! xoxo
What a total drag to spend a Monday in boring meeting! I'm not surprised it got you thinking about food and recipes. My mom is an amazing cook and I was really lucky to eat well as a kid (and now every time I go to hear house, like I did this past weekend). What fun to come up with a good recipe to share! It'll be more enjoyable thinking about recipes once I get to work instead of the pile of crap (oops, I mean important legal documents) on my desk that needs to be dealt with.
What is it exactly you'll be cooking with Mum? I've already written about pie, but I'll come up with something else.
I don't know what's happened to you, dive. You seem to be getting like an old softy. NOT the dive of old who used to be cynical and amuse us all with your bitching and ranting. No wonder old knudsen doesn't read your blog anymore.
jeez!!
Lynn: I'm sure your mum will be chuffed to have her recipes posted online. Go for it! I think we should get a nice collection of folks' favourite "mum-food" to try.
Savannah: I can't WAIT to try a MITM recipe!
And thanks; I am home now! I left at around 4:00.
xoxox
Katie: Do get your lovely mom (Hi, Cynthia!) to post some "mom" recipes for us to cook. Never mind important legal documents; yummy food comes first.
Robyn, we'll be cooking "tiddy oggy". If you want to know what that is you'll have to wait for the post. All I'll say is it's nothing exotic but whenever Phil and I found out we'd be having tiddy oggy we went berserk! That's the whole idea for this little task; to fess up to your favourite kiddie comfort food.
Hey, Rich! I'm getting old and my priorities are now sleep and food. I get excited about goose-down pillows and thick, Irish linen sheets and things I can put in my mouth.
Sad but true.
Don't worry though; I'll no doubt get ranty again in a day or so.
Dive,
I have had my stomach in a knot knowing I'm starting back to work August 24th with two days full of meetings! I have 171 teenagers to deal with!
Dad gave me more recipes than Mom. He still loves to cook if he has company. I will send them along. Grandma H. was the baker. She baked the most wonderful pies but did not leave the recipe.
Meetings AND teenagers! Poor you, Neetzy!
Dad's recipes will be great, too! In fact when the winter veg season comes around I'll be posting one of my dad's specials, too.
