Nuthin' Much

I'm off to the kitchen to commit vegicide and to try out some new dishes for the "What's Cooking With Dive?" series.

While I'm in there, here's The Carter Family singing "Wildwood Flower" at the Grand Ole Opry.
Enjoy your Sunday.

On a totally unrelated subject, hidden behind the Olympics and the South Ossetia crisis, the BBC reports that the Philippines military are having a little spat down in the Southern Islands with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
While this is a very serious subject for those on both sides one can only wonder at the acuity of whoever gave the Islamic separatists the acronym MILF.

It appears that the rebels ignored a deadline to leave, - so the army said.
Guess it's a good time to be stirring while the remainder of the world is distracted by boring old human rights.

When you have that lot prepared in the kitchen, I reckon the Carter Family deserve a serve, too. They put their hearts and souls into it.

Now I can replay it, only louder this time !

I love The Carter Family, Monsieur. They are country music's royal family (in a good way; not like our parasitical mob). I stuck "The Complete Recordings" of The Carter Family, Woodie Guthrie, Pete Seeger and Hank Williams into a playlist and I've been listening to them all day on iTunes. I suppose that makes me officially old.

Delightful video. The Carter Family sure are royal; I know that my friends who are in bluegrass bands often cover their songs. And I'm sure you like the dresses the women are wearing in this video! And don't think you're old because you listen to this music; my sister's 4-year old loves Woodie Guthrie and Pete Seeger, so it's obviously good for all ages.

I hope the situation in the Southern Philippines islands ends quickly without escalating into something worse. I must admit that I laughed outloud at acronym MILF though. Something tells me that their army isn't made up of hot moms.

So you spotted the lovely dresses, too, Katie!
I wonder about the MILF army. Perhaps they really are a bunch of hot moms with guns. At least that would give the Philippines army good reason to chase after them.

When you finally decide to travel to the Philippines, I'll take you down south with me and meet the locals. I wouldn't be able to arrange a meeting with the MILF, but perhaps one with the Moro National Liberation Front would be possible. You'll meet the loveliest, warmest and kindest people in the south of the Philippines. What do you say?

Darn Tootin!
Here's a weird confession. When I was little and loved getting lost in old explorer's books, one of the places I really wanted to go was Zamboanga. I just loved the name.
And that's where the MILFs hang out.

I guess someone with a sense of humour decided it would be a good monica for them!!!!

I always wanted to go to Timbuktu, Intercourse, Titty Hill and Twatt!!!!
But most of all Coventry - 'cause all the naughty interesting people get sent there so it must be one hoot of a place!!!!!

Robyn: they were the original and the best.

Jules: So far only yourself and Katie have cottoned on to the meaning of the acronym. Hoorah for you!
Next time you're in Germany, don't miss the village of Wank. And only a short drive from my house is the village of Six Mile Bottom.

Coventry is dull, dull, dull. The artwork in the Cathedral is spiffy but the rest of country cheered when Coventry got a by-pass so we wouldn't have to drive through it any more.

I grew up listening to The Carter Family. My Da adored Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Snow and The Carter Family. In fact, he was the one who taught me how to yodel....

Not sure that Bing and Liv are properly appreciative of that fact...

Woah! Yodelling! Cool, Maria!
You just know what you've done now, don't you?
I have an extremely disturbing vision in my head of Ventura Highway with yodelled backing vocals … something I somehow doubt I could ever persuade Bing and yourself to record for us.

Is that why everyone gets sent to Coventry Dive - to get bored to death!!!!

I love the British sense of humour!! Who was the town jester who gave these places their names -probably some geek in a tweed suit in a boring office who got his only jollies in life thinking up more and more outlandish names!!! Gee i wish I had his job - I could write some doozies!!!!!

Jules: One of life's great joys is sitting down with a large scale atlas of Britain and looking at the stupid village names.
