We stop for coffee by the London Eye. A ride on the big wheel has been something both Mme and MB have been looking forward to for a long time.If you want to see lots of photos of the structure itself and the wonderful views from the top, trawl the "London" link in my archives; today we are just here to enjoy the company of these two wonderful people.
All aboard!Normally I'd advise turning up at ten to ride the Eye; it opens officially at ten-thirty but they start it up earlier and you can often get a whole gondola with only two or three people in at that time of day.
Having said that, they were putting around twenty-five to thirty people in each gondola and - as you can see - even that's not too crowded.
MB took more photos in here than the rest of the trip together. He'll have the entire city from the air when he downloads them all. You've got to admit, he looks pretty dapper with a camera.
Just coming out of the side of Mme's hair is The Parasite House with the park and lake in front of it. If you know where to look you can see the bridge over the lake where, a short time before we had stood and photographed the Eye.
In case any of you (yes, I mean you, mum) are put off the Eye because you can't stand heights, this is what it is actually like inside the gondolas.Plenty of room to sit and enjoy the view without having to look down.
I don't know what the guy at the back there just said to the blonde woman but it looks like he's going to suffer for the rest of the day because of it.
This is what we look like from the other gondolas.Actually, on the way up and down the sides of the Eye you can see right up the skirts of the weemen above you.
Rule One: Wear trousers if you're going on the Eye, ladies.
So that just about wraps it up for our way too short fun day out in London with the lovely Benauts. Here I am pointing out my office to MB … just above the trees behind Big Ben.
After we disembarked, Mme did a fast sprint around the Salvador Dali exhibition in County Hall and we took a cab back to their hotel for a cuppa and a look at their WONDERFUL wedding photos from "The Wirral Wedding" (coming soon to Mme and MB's blogs when they return home and well worth waiting for) and a gorgeous photo of Lynn with Mme.
I miss them so much. London's a pretty dull place now they've headed off to dash round the rest of Europe.Do follow their exploits on the various blogs of the folk they're visiting (the links are on Lynn's blog).
I just look forward to making a return visit to Adelaide and enjoying their marvellous company once more.

Great recap Dive! I also love the way you find so much in a photo (things coming out of people's hair, lover spats...). Amazing! LOL
Cheers, Michael.
That's the joy of digital cameras. When you get home and launch Photoshop you can peer in all those tiny corners and blow up things that were too insignificant to notice when you were there.
I like to take general "crowd shots" around London and then pick out the weird stuff at my leisure.
Creepy, huh?
Hee hee.
What a fun final round of Benaut photos! You did a wonderful job of documenting this historic London adventure. And I agree with Michael that you've also captured other great stuff in your photos (like the red underwear peeking out of the rather ample posterior of the woman in the foreground of one photo). I'm sure London is a much duller town now that the Benauts are in France!
Very nice D.. I will come on the eye one of these days promise.....think you have done the M's proud....
Katie, London is indeed much duller; you'll have to come and liven it up.
Don't bring red underwear; it seems we have more than enough of that already!
Mum: We had a lot of fun. And yes, next time we're in London you've got no excuses; you're going up in the Eye.
As I have already said, I'm so jealous on two counts—you got to spend the day with the Benauts, and they got to spend the day in London with my favorite tour guide.
Aw, gee shucks, Missy Robyn.
You know that you are more than welcome to come back for extra tour-guiding.
what fun, sugar! all of that activity in only a day..well done, well done!! xoxox
FanTASTC!!!!
Oh but please tell me you didn't wee a photo of me, i look just awful at the moment and not myself. I'm usually FAR more glam... he he. Ohhhhh no. Groan. Please no. Strike it from your memory. I've been ill.
Ok enough neurosis. These photos are truly wonderful Dive. You must be a very special person indeed to conduct such a fab tour. I swear when i'm fully better, i am dying to come to London to meet you. Even if we just do the Eye at first. In fact, after that, i really will be fit for nothing, and you'll have to prise me off you.
Oh my, i really should proof read. Fantastic, that's meant to be. And WEE a photo of me? Well you'd be mighty clever wouldn't you Dive. Meant to be see, of course. Wee, indeed. Guffaw.
Wee. Hee Hee. We are all forgetting our proof reading here lately Lynn, not to worry. I've been the queen of using the same word eight million times then looking back later and thinking "Nice going clever girl, aren't you clever." to myself. ;)
Dive, I am simply stunned by that, what did you call it?The EYE? OH MY OH MY! That thing looks to be straight out of a Roald Dahl book!! Dive and the Great Glass Elevator, indeed!
How very innovative! Looks like one of your school designs in people mover form!
If it's heights keeping your mom from it though, I can't blame her. I'd be firmly in the middle holding whatever stranger necessary with clammy hands to be sure. I YI YI!
Savannah; I keep forgetting that most people aren't used to walking all day. Poor Mme!
xoxox
Lynn I did "wee" (hee hee) a lovely photo of you and you looked like you were having a fine old time with Mme, so don't worry.
Before you come up to London you need to go see your mum and dad and pop in to Norwich for coffee. Bring mum and dad, too; you can sit there, bored out of your tree while your dad and I tell RAF stories for hours. Hee hee.
Shan: Well spotted.
And you didn't know about the Eye? It's so much fun. Come on over and cower in the middle of a gondola while it goes round.
Your Auntie Jan wants to come on the eye as well....she has just seen your tour with the M's.....
Good stuff Dive. You are such a wonderful host! the Benaut's are lovely. I would love to host them in the USA. I am close to Baltimore, MD and Washington, D.C. You are a wonderful tour guide! Can we look you up if we ever come "over"?
Katie - you have good eyesight - I am headig back to have another look for the red underwear!!!!
Dive - you must have been all exhausted - that is a super-tourist trek around old London town!!! You could set yourself up as a tour guide you know - we'd all be there in a flash. Looks like you had a hoot of a time.
um: Mad Auntie Janet is more than welcome. There is a sign on the inside of the gondolas, however, that reads "No shrieking or giggling" so we may have to gag her for the ride.
Boy am I cruising for a bruising! Heehee.
Neetzy: Please do! Come on over the pond and have some fun.
My ever-growing list of places to visit includes Washington; Katherine is in your area so maybe I can meet both my favourite artist and my favourite poet one day and go visit craggy old Lincoln and see the White House like a good tourist.
Jules: We did indeed have a hoot! I'm afraid I am used to walking all over London at a great pace all day long so bring your walking shoes.
Dive what a lovely idea, yes i plan to do both Norwich and London!
Hey Dive pssst! You and i are both featured at today's Paris Daily Photo! Yes, Eric has linked us. This is an honour indeed, he being the original Daily Photo man, for those here who don't know. I always get excited beyond reason if he even visits my blog. He he! Go and take a look at www.parisdailyphoto.blogspot.com sorry i've forgotten how to link on here.
Come over as soon as you feel up to it, Lynn. You know you'll get a warm welcome.
It's indeed an honour to have a link on Eric's site! I like his "making of" site with the photo of Mme and MB looking very happy indeed.
Thanks for the painting comment, Dive! I've posted another now and will try to keep it more update from now on.
Ooh! I'll pop over and take a gander.
God, you are one lucky fella, Dive.
I certainly am where blog friends are concerned, Maria.
Helloooo! Well we're on our last day in Paris and grabbing a first chance to look at your amazing blogs for the last couple of days. Wonderful Dive. I feel so honoured and I miss your lovely hugs too.
Must dash but thank you so much tout le monde for your very kind comments which I shall read in more detail at another opportunity.
Much love to all en blogosphere!
Mme, I am so glad you could pop in. I trust you are both having a FANTASTIC time in gay Paree.
I can't wait to hear all about the next leg of your marvellous adventure.
Many hugs for both you and MB.
XX
Maybe you can make a life-size cut out of them both and take them with you around London :D That way you won't miss them so much.
No, I want inflatable, talking ones.
So what are you waiting for? Go make one! :p
