Hey Ho, Huff The Talbot

I love that song.
Anyone who can tell me which song "Hey ho, huff the talbot" comes from without recourse to Google has incomparably splendid taste. The clue is in the fact that this is Pink Floyd week, but it's not quite as easy as that.

Anyhoo, it seems that some of my dear readers across the pond are unfamiliar with the Floyd, so here's a well-worn tale to give you some sort of idea of the kind of people we're dealing with.

This from Wiki:
"The original Pink Floyd pig was designed by Roger Waters and built in December 1976 in preparation for shooting the cover of the Animals album. Plans were made to fly the forty-foot, helium-filled balloon over Battersea Power Station on the first day's photo-shoot, with a marksman prepared to shoot the pig down if it broke free. However, the pig was not launched.

On the second day, the marksman wasn't present because no one had told him to return, and the pig broke free due to a strong gust of wind (gaining a lot of press coverage). It disappeared from sight within five minutes, and was spotted by airline pilots at forty thousand feet in the air. Flights at Heathrow Airport were cancelled as the huge inflatable pig flew through the path of aircraft, eastwards from Britain, over the English Channel, finally landing on a rural farm in Kent that night.

The pig was recovered and repaired for the resumption of photography for the album cover, but unfortunately the sky was cloudless and blue, thus "boring". However, the pictures of the sky from the first day were suitable; eventually, the album cover was created using a composite of photos from the first and third days.

The pig that was originally floated above Battersea Power Station was called "Algie"."

Say "Hi" to Algie Pig.

As a nation, we English are kinda proud of our little eccentricities. This was one of them.
Oink oink!

Odd but not unlike our Thanksgiving day parade balloons.

You give thanks to a giant pig?

Hi, Prudence.
You missed the quiz, you lucky girl.

Your use of language, Monsieur is indeed splendid.
It's marvellous to see that the Poms resort to nature, in the way of blow-up-pigs.
Across the Atlantic, they resort to blow-up-other things, most of which is unspeakable, except for Monica Lewinski, who in the end, had a guts-full anyway. I often wondered if she was a member of the Flat Earth Society. She did fall off the edge. Rather pig-like, thinkest-thou not ?

She was never the most svelte creature, MB.
Mind you, the lass could certainly make cigar smoking interesting.

Nice to have you back in Blogville, Lynn.
New car, new computer, welcome home.

Nice. Americans are usually working too hard on conforming to appreciate their own eccentricities, unfortunately.

That is so true. The most culturally diverse country in the world and they all try to act the same.
Weird.

Come to America and you will see how different we all are. The Brits are more quaint and I like that for some reason, is there room for me over there?

Pink Floyd was my very favorite band when I was a teen. I could found listening to "Dark side of the moon" in a room with black lights and blue smoke.

You and me both, Rich. I wore out two vinyl copies of it.

And yup, we Brits are indeed quaint. Come on over; Bostonians are always welcome as long lost brothers.

I have no idea but it sounds suspiciously like Puff the Magic Dragon....

It had a name? I love it! I wonder what inspired that particular choice?

Our beach pig-castle was named Fatass Fi after a gossiping pig of a woman that none of us like.

Hey ho.

Close but no cigar, Maria.

And Vic: Hee hee hee
