The Pariah Club

This is great!
Going through the comments from the last post it seems I am by no means alone in having laughed when I heard Diana had died.
Perhaps we should form some kind of club - The Pariah Club - for social outcasts too despicable to allowed into normal society.
Hee hee hee.
So far it's Fresh Hell, Maria and me.
I'll also make Peahen an honourable member for her cartoon of Stan, Kyle and Cartman standing on a grassy knoll saying "Oh my God! They killed Kennedy".
If anyone else wants to join you've got to provide at least anecdotal evidence of sick laughter in the face of hilarious national tragedy.

Hey! We had a terrorist alert at Liverpool Street Station this morning.
As I got off the train the platform was swarming with police in their sexy yellow minidresses and sub-machine guns, and some poor Asian guy with a beard and a rucksack was being given a - how shall I put it - "stern talking-to".
At least they've learned to yell at people and slap them about rather than simply shoot them in the head these days.
Hey ho.
Robyn's coming to London in a couple of weeks. She better not bring a rucksack and a false beard.

I was born on 9/11 - the american version 11th september. I watched with some horror as the second plane went in live. Happy birthday Kate.
The year after with all of the specials going on about the world trade centre, well I was kind of tired of people taking over my birthday. So all of the cans were stacked through the night until we had twin towers - of bourbon. At teh end of teh night after I had blown out my candles they made me a paper plane which i used like a skittle to fly into the towers and knock them down.
Everybody had a turn and yes I have the pictures somewhere.
Its my birthday so fuck you osama.

And to all of the shocked americans. i'm really not all that australian, my great grandfather was american.

I can't think of a time when I laughed at a national tragedy, so I'll have to be an outcast to your outcast club. I don't remember having much of a reaction when Diana died. I was more concerned when Mother Teresa died a fews days later, and the image that sticks in my mind is the one that was shown for weeks afterwards--the one of the two women meeting, with Diana having to bend down just to shake hands with the sister. The contrast between the two was stunning.

I'll be careful to shave my beard before I arrive.

I'm very jealous of Robyn.

Kate, me too! My birthday is September 11th, and I never hear the end of it. Funny, no one ever remembered my birthday as a child (too close to the start of school). Now no one forgets it.

As for Diana, my story's just odd.

Sass, now you have to tell us your Di story.

I laughed my arse off when the queen mother died, she was an evil cow. Definately the puppet master. Wonder who's hand is up charlies arse these days?
We had a "can you believe this is happening party" when charlie married camilla. (which technically is a global tragedy) with an ex pat brit sitting here drunk and saying c*nt and throwing cheese and dip at the big screen every time they showed camilla.
Thats the good thing about ex pat brits and kiwis, get them pissed and make them say the words "fish and chips" and "bugs."

Hee hee, Kate. The Queen Mother was a brown-toothed, gin-swilling monster with a fetish for tiny men dressed in silk.
She actually died back in the eighties but she kept twitching after they'd embalmed her so they wheeled her around for a few more years to wring cash from tourists.

Robyn: The thought of you in The Pariah Club is just too disturbing.

And Sassy: Fess up!

The queen mother was a great source of comedy. I can remember the crew of a ship having to stand waiting for about two hours because she was making such slow progress on a meet and greet when she was about 270 years old. When I was drunk, I often used to resort to my Serious News Announcement By Someone Close To The Royal Family voice ... "I'm afraid thet Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother is quite dead. She was fiynd lying in a pool of her own urine abyt an hour ago by one of the Coldstream Guards".

Er, it doesn't really translate well written down. Or when you're sober.

Betty - anyone who's seen the south park movie can translate that.

Dive - left you a present on my blog. right hand side, scroll down. Feel free to nick it.

Whoo! Kate! That is too cool! I love it.
I must admit I was trying to find a good shot of the trashed Merc and one of some kids pointing and laughing to make my own teeshirt but your logo is so damned cool.

And thank you, Betty; I just laughed green tea out through my nose!

Courtesy of Kate, Robyn.
If you want to join, just be sure and laugh at your next national tragedy.
Actually, your incumbent president is a national tragedy so if you laugh at him you're in.

On "September 11th" it had been exactly one week since I knelt beside my mother's bed while she died. I couldn't have cared less about the twin towers and what had happened there. A year and a half later, it dawned on me how sad that event was when I walked past the New York New York Casino on my way to a Billy Idol concert in Las Vegas.

Still I find much of human, natural, and especially celebrity tragedy humorous. I'm just a bad egg that way.

Proud member of the club!
